What are some common challenges faced by Remote Exploit Developers when working collaboratively with distributed security teams?

Remote Exploit Developers often work closely with global security teams, which can present challenges such as coordinating across different time zones, ensuring secure and clear communication, and managing sensitive information. Collaboration typically involves using encrypted channels, detailed code documentation, and regular virtual meetings to share progress and address vulnerabilities. Adapting to asynchronous workflows and maintaining strong team relationships are essential for overcoming these challenges and delivering effective, timely exploit solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Exploit Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Exploit Developer, you need advanced knowledge of operating systems, vulnerability research, reverse engineering, and strong programming skills in languages like C, C++, Python, or Assembly, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications in cybersecurity. Familiarity with tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, Metasploit, and debuggers, as well as experience with fuzzing frameworks and exploit development environments, is crucial. Exceptional problem-solving, persistence, and attention to detail, along with ethical judgment, set top performers apart in this field. These skills are vital for responsibly identifying and demonstrating vulnerabilities, enabling organizations to improve their security and minimize risk.

What is a Remote Exploit Developer?

A Remote Exploit Developer is a cybersecurity professional who specializes in identifying, creating, and testing software exploits that can be executed remotely over a network. Their work typically involves finding vulnerabilities in software or hardware systems and developing code that can take advantage of these flaws without physical access to the target device. This role is essential in both offensive security research and defensive security, as it helps organizations understand and mitigate potential risks. Remote Exploit Developers must have strong programming skills, knowledge of operating systems, and an in-depth understanding of security protocols.

What is the difference between Remote Exploit Developer vs Penetration Tester?

AspectRemote Exploit DeveloperPenetration Tester
CredentialsKnowledge of security vulnerabilities, programming skills, certifications like OSCP or CEHSecurity certifications (OSCP, CEH), testing experience, technical background
Work EnvironmentFocus on developing exploits, testing security flaws, often in a controlled environmentSimulating attacks, assessing security posture, often in client or corporate settings
Industry UsageCybersecurity, software security, vulnerability researchCybersecurity, consulting, IT security teams

While both roles require security knowledge and technical skills, Remote Exploit Developers focus on creating and testing exploits to identify vulnerabilities, whereas Penetration Testers simulate attacks to evaluate security defenses. Both roles are essential in cybersecurity but differ in their primary objectives and methods.

Description

GEOINT SAR Analyst

Etegent Technologies is a defense-focused technology company with offices in Beavercreek and Blue Ash, OH. We are a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and management professionals dedicated to developing and commercializing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Software solutions that address our customers' most significant challenges and opportunities.

Most important to us are our culture and values. Etegent's culture embodies respect, authenticity, collaboration, flexibility, curiosity, and fun.

The Position:

Etegent is seeking a Geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) analyst to work in a team environment with Etegent researchers and partner analysts. This role is part of a long-term effort developing new deep learning capabilities to address critical needs in the intelligence community.

The Candidate:

More so than seeking candidates with specific training and experience, Etegent seeks a special type of person; someone with an innate curiosity and passion for learning and understanding, tempered by a recognition of the pragmatic constraints inherent in developing real solutions to real problems. They are flexible and adaptable, having the desire and ability to learn new skills and theory to take on challenges outside their current realm of experience.

An intelligence analyst with a strong foundation in GEOINT imagery exploitation and a genuine interest in creating and improving innovative, elegant capabilities to glean knowledge and understanding from large, diverse intelligence and imagery sources in the DoD, IC and commercial fields will be a great fit for this position. This person will naturally recognize the opportunities to enhance and optimize current software tools and work flows they use, and "think outside the box" to envision how they can be improved to help make analysts more effective, efficient and inspired by the work they accomplish.

Responsibilities:

  • Exploit SAR and intelligence sources to identify and annotate targets of interest in SAR imagery to more effectively train machine learning algorithms.
  • Exploit imagery and intelligence source to adjudicate target detection algorithm results within GEOINT imagery.
  • Research targets of interest including physical characteristics and equipment configurations, order of battle/pattern of life, target locations and available intelligence sources and imagery.
  • Coordinate with other analysts to gather feedback and suggest improvements to the workflow and software tools used.
  • Work with a team of analysts and engineers to improve the processes and software tools used to exploit, annotate and quality control annotations within GEOINT imagery.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of relevant, demonstrated experience in GEOINT imagery analysis with a specialization and expertise in SAR image analysis.
  • An active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required. Candidates are required to have an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of SAR imagery exploitation tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with DoD/IC Structured Observation Management (SOM) tools and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with GEOINT machine learning data curation and algorithm adjudication.
  • Familiarity with NASIC and other DoD/IC organizations.
  • Familiarity with DoD/IC intelligence sources and imagery search and retrieval tools.
  • Experience with other remote sensing data modalities such as spectral, EO, FMV, sonar, etc.
  • Experience with programming/analysis tools such as ENVI/IDL, MATLAB, Python or R.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in image science, remote sensing, GIS, Geography, earth science, physical science, engineering, or similar engineering/science fields.

Attributes:

  • Strong team player able to thrive in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Energized, passionate, and an effective communicator.

Working at Etegent:

At Etegent, you'll be part of a fast-growing organization that combines a small-company family feel with big-company resources and opportunities. We work hard, but we also want you to have fun. In addition to your competitive salary, medical/dental/vision plan and a generous annual company 401(k) contribution, you'll enjoy the following:

  • Flexibility: Not a morning person? No problem. We only ask that you begin your day by 10:00am. You also will enjoy work schedule flexibility.
  • Professional Development: Continuous learning on us. Reimbursement provided for up to 100% of qualifying education expenses.
  • Food: Keep your energy levels up with our well-supplied snack and beverage cabinet and enjoy a weekly lunch with your talented colleagues on Free Lunch Fridays.
  • Location: Our offices are centrally located in Cincinnati and Dayton, OH. Both offices are a short commute from multiple desirable suburban communities and vibrant urban living and entertainment districts.

Competitive compensation based on qualifications and experience of candidate.
