Job description

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Senior Java Back End Developer (Google Cloud Platform) for a contract position with a Regional Financial Institution located in Columbus, OH. This is a 6+ month contract opportunity. This role can work remotely or can be a hybrid role from Columbus, OH.
Compensation: $70.00 - $75.00 per hour, W2

Position Overview:
This role involves designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-grade APIs and cloud-native applications hosted on Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform). The focus will be on building a new payments API platform using scalable, resilient, and secure microservices leveraging modern Java technologies, event-driven architectures, and managed cloud services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to create enterprise API and event-driven integration solutions
  • Develop software in an Agile environment leveraging DevOps practices, automated testing, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code
  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient microservices deployed on Google Cloud Platform
  • Build and maintain event-driven systems utilizing Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns
  • Integrate applications with MongoDB Atlas and other enterprise data platforms
  • Develop automated testing strategies including unit, integration, contract, and performance testing
  • Implement observability practices including centralized logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting
  • Maintain and evolve existing enterprise integration assets and cloud-hosted services
  • Partner with platform engineering and infrastructure teams to continuously improve deployment automation, cloud operations, security, and reliability
  • Serve as a technical mentor and provide guidance on application architecture, coding standards, and cloud-native best practices

Primary Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience building enterprise applications and APIs
  • 5+ years of Java development experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Maven, and Gradle
  • Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications on Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform)
  • Experience with GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine), Kubernetes, Docker containers, and microservices architectures
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations
  • Experience with Apache Kafka or managed Kafka platforms such as Confluent Cloud
  • Experience with MongoDB Atlas and NoSQL database design principles
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar technologies
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, resiliency patterns, scalability, and performance optimization
  • Experience working within Agile and DevOps delivery models
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, architecture, and business teams

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with Google Cloud services including: GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, Cloud Monitoring & Logging, Cloud Build, Cloud SQL
  • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Developer or Professional Cloud Architect certification
  • Experience implementing Event-Driven Architecture (EDA)
  • Experience with API gateways and service mesh technologies
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace, Splunk, or Datadog
  • Experience developing financial services or high-volume transaction processing systems
  • Experience with security best practices including OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and Zero Trust architectures
