Associated Builders and Contractors Eastern, PA is looking to add virtual skilled Trades Instructors to their team.
Positions Available: Roofing | Masonry | Laborer | Sprinkler Fitter | Sheet Metal

Position Summary:
We are seeking experienced, journeyperson skilled trades professionals to serve as Virtual Instructors for trade-specific training programs. Each instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging instruction in their respective trade discipline through a virtual learning platform, maintaining accurate student records in a separate administrative system, and supporting apprentices or trainees in developing both foundational and advanced competencies.
This is an excellent opportunity for seasoned tradespeople who are passionate about workforce development and want to share their expertise with the next generation of craftworkers.
Available Trade Specialties:
Roofing Instructor
Roofing systems, materials, installation, safety, and repair techniques including flat and pitched roofs, flashing, and weatherproofing.
Masonry Instructor
Brick, block, stone, and concrete work including layout, mortar mixing, tuckpointing, foundations, and structural considerations.
Laborer Instructor
General construction skills, site preparation, material handling, OSHA safety protocols, tool usage, and support across multiple trades.
Sprinkler Fitter Instructor
Fire suppression system design, pipe fitting, NFPA standards, system testing, inspection procedures, and hydraulic calculations.
Sheet Metal Instructor
Sheet metal fabrication, HVAC ductwork, layout and installation, soldering, welding basics, and blueprint reading.
Key Responsibilities:Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
  • Plan and deliver virtual lessons aligned with trade standards, apprenticeship frameworks, and program curriculum
  • Adapt in-person trade instruction methodologies for effective virtual delivery (demonstrations, video walkthroughs, annotated diagrams)
  • Conduct live virtual sessions via video conferencing platform (e.g., Zoom, Teams, or equivalent)
  • Develop or refine course materials including slide decks, handouts, and demonstration videos
  • Assign, review, and provide feedback on student work, projects, and assessments
  • Ensure instruction aligns with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations for the trade
Student Engagement & Support
  • Foster an inclusive, professional, and encouraging virtual learning environment
  • Monitor student progress and proactively identify learners who need additional support
  • Hold virtual office hours or one-on-one check-ins with students
  • Maintain consistent communication with students regarding expectations, deadlines, and performance
  • Encourage critical thinking and real-world application of trade knowledge
Administration & Recordkeeping
  • Log attendance, track student participation, and enter grades/assessment results into the program's administrative platform
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in compliance with program requirements
  • Submit required reports, documentation, and progress updates on schedule
  • Participate in instructor orientation, training sessions, and periodic program meetings
  • Coordinate with program administrators regarding scheduling, curriculum updates, and student concerns
  • Respond to administrative communications within one business day
Technology & Virtual Environment
  • Operate video conferencing software, screen sharing, and virtual tools proficiently
  • Navigate and use the program's Learning Management System (LMS) and administrative platform independently
  • Troubleshoot basic technical issues during live sessions
  • Ensure a professional, distraction-free virtual teaching environment with reliable internet and appropriate equipment.

Qualifications & Requirements:
​​​​​​​Trade Proficiency (Required)
  • Journeyperson certification or equivalent documented experience in the specific trade (10+ years preferred)
  • Active or recently active in the trade; current knowledge of codes, materials, and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex trade concepts clearly to learners at varying skill levels
  • Knowledge of applicable safety standards
Technology Proficiency (Required)
  • Comfortable conducting live video instruction (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, or equivalent)
  • Able to navigate web-based administrative/LMS platforms for recordkeeping and communication
  • Ability to create or adapt digital materials (presentations, PDFs, instructional videos)
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and a dedicated workspace suitable for virtual instruction
  • Basic proficiency with email, shared documents, and digital file management
