What is a Remote Epic Security Analyst?

A Remote Epic Security Analyst is a professional who manages and maintains user access, security settings, and compliance within the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system while working remotely. They are responsible for configuring user roles, monitoring security protocols, and ensuring that patient data remains protected according to healthcare regulations. These analysts collaborate with IT teams, clinical staff, and compliance officers to identify risks, audit system access, and implement best practices in security. Their remote role allows them to perform these duties from any location, often leveraging secure remote access tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Epic Security Analyst?

To thrive as a Remote Epic Security Analyst, you need a strong background in information security, healthcare IT, and Epic system administration, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field. Experience with Epic Hyperspace, security provisioning tools, identity management systems, and Epic certification (such as Epic Security Coordinator) is highly valued. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with remote teams and stakeholders. These competencies ensure the secure management of sensitive healthcare data and regulatory compliance while supporting efficient clinical workflows.

How does a Remote Epic Security Analyst typically collaborate with clinical and IT teams to ensure compliance and data security?

As a Remote Epic Security Analyst, you will regularly coordinate with both clinical staff and IT teams to manage user access, troubleshoot security incidents, and implement compliance measures. This collaboration often involves virtual meetings to gather requirements, clarify clinical workflows, and ensure that access privileges align with job functions while adhering to HIPAA and organizational policies. Effective communication skills and a proactive approach to clarifying security needs are crucial, since much of the collaboration is done remotely. You'll also be involved in educating users about best practices and responding to audits or security assessments.
