Job description

Join the Slingers! Slingshot is seeking a recent Architectural graduate (Entry-Level Architectural Associate / Recent Graduate) to join our passionate, purpose-driven studio in Des Moines. We're a small but mighty team of architects and interior designers dedicated to crafting meaningful, human-centered spaces that elevate everyday life and strengthen Midwestern communities. Our work spans architecture, interiors, and urbanism — always with a focus on clarity, precision, and real impact.

As a teaching studio, we value team members who take ownership of their work, grow alongside talented colleagues, and contribute to collaborative excellence. In this role, you’ll provide key support across all phases of the architectural process under the direction of mid- to senior-level designers and architects, helping bring concepts to life through thoughtful development, documentation, and team support — with opportunities to build your skills and impact from concept through construction administration.

What You’ll Do

  • Learn the SSA design process and project software, including ArchiCAD.
  • Prepare detailed architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents to support project execution.
  • Work closely with project team members to refine designs and address technical challenges.
  • Research materials, construction techniques, and emerging trends to inform design decisions.
  • Perform site analysis tasks, such as reviewing environmental conditions or zoning requirements, to support project planning.
  • Assist in preparing for client presentations by organizing visuals and drafting meeting notes.
  • Join client meetings or site visits to gain exposure to client communication and project oversight.
  • Track project milestones and assist in maintaining timelines and deliverables under the direction of a project lead.
  • Visit construction sites with the CA lead to observe progress and verify design implementation.
  • Actively pursue learning opportunities, such as mastering new design software or understanding advanced building systems.
  • Seek mentorship from experienced colleagues to refine technical and creative abilities.
  • Begin logging hours for the Architectural Experience Program (AXP) to work toward licensure.

Who We’re Looking For: The ideal “Slinger” holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture and has up to two years of non-licensed experience. You thrive when you:

  • Are a self-starter who shares our drive for creating meaningful work in a collaborative environment and desires to be part of an enthusiastic and passionate team.
  • Excel in a fast-paced, small-team setting committed to exceeding expectations daily.
  • Demonstrate a strong design instinct, generous work approach, and clarity in communication.
  • Arrive ready to learn and contribute to all design phases for projects that revitalize cities and improve the human experience.
  • Enjoy working on varied project typologies, including mixed-use urban infill, historic rehabilitation, workspaces, and hospitality.
  • Seek to gain exposure and build relationships with clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Possess functional knowledge of architectural-related software.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bring adaptability, an eagerness to learn, a proactive attitude, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

What We Offer

  • Average 40 hrs work week
  • Remote Work Opportunities (after onboarding and training are completed)
  • Flexible Schedule with 9a-3p core hours
  • Health Insurance
  • Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance, STD & LTD covered 100% for employee
  • Maternity Leave
  • 401k plan with Company Match
  • Monthly Gym Benefit
  • Volunteer Time Off
  • Professional Development Stipend
  • Leadership Involved In Day-to-Day
  • A Teaching Studio & Collaborative Environment
  • Relaxed Dress Code
  • Dog-Friendly Office
  • Beverages & Snacks
  • Quarterly Team Events
  • Annual Team Celebration

This full-time position is available in our Des Moines studio.
