The Prince George's County Office of the State's Attorney is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Administrative Aide 1 grade G13 position, in the Youth Justice Division.

About the Position
This is a dually allocated support position in which the incumbent will provide entry level administrative and legal support and assistance to our Youth Justice Unit. Additionally, incumbents will perform routine to moderately difficult office responsibilities such as handling and coordinating a variety of complex administrative functions and activities within assigned Unit. Prepares letters, memorandums, reports, labels, envelopes, subpoenas, motions, court orders, petitions, writs and other legal documents from case files, handwritten copy, and verbal instructions from assigned Assistant State's Attorneys. Prepares subpoenas for witnesses and police officers for court hearings in accordance with established procedures while utilizing the Odyssey File and Serve (MDEC) system along with Judicial Dialog (JD) and JPortal. Prepares documents used in the legal profession from handwritten notes and verbal Instructions; with a high degree of accuracy under the close supervision of the Unit Chiefs.

The Office will be responsive to the very diverse community of Prince George's County, treating every person with dignity and respect. The State's Attorney's Office (SAO) is responsible for serving nearly one million residents of Prince George's County. The SAO's legal department is divided into multiple divisions, each of which has jurisdiction over different facets of criminal law.
Examples of Work
  • Utilizes the Odyssey File and Serve (MOEC) system to filo and update court cases. Prepares documents used in the legal profession from handwritten notes and verbal Instructions; with a high degree of accuracy, using proper formal and carefully proof reading all copy for possible errors.
  • Operates and disseminates CJIS information following proper procedures and complying with State laws and regulations; interprets all computer screens and printouts accurately.
  • Prepares appropriate copies of au discovery material of each criminal case; assembles and disseminates all essential paperwork to entered defense attorney, identifies cases handled by the Public Defender's Office and provides a copy of all discovery letters in those cases for accurate billing by our Administrative Division to that agency.
  • Manages CT felony case files appropriately; accurately documents completion of all case related paperwork on case jacket.
  • Operates Computer (PC) providing additional flexibility in case work and other written materials for attorneys' signature; determines and utilizes appropriate formats.
  • Exercises appropriate discretion and good judgment in determining type or information to be furnished upon request; always complies with State mandated guidelines.
  • Offers ability and thorough knowledge of CT case filing system.
  • Completes file maintenance task completely, following retention guidelines as directed by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with coursework in typing, office practices or other related clerical subjects.
  • One (1) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which must have involved working with the public for at least six (6) months.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Candidates deemed as meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to complete and pass an online Administrative Aide examination. Applicants who have previously taken and passed the exam on or after 8/1/2024 will not be required to re-test. Previous passing test scores will be applied.

General Plan Information:
The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.
A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.
Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren).
