Optum is a global organization that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health optimization on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

Technical Writers at Optum Global Solutions don't just document products. They shape how customers understand, adopt, and succeed with them.

As a Technical Writer, you will own and drive content for key product areas, designing scalable, high-impact content across products and help experiences. You'll work closely with product managers, engineers, UX designers, and other writers to ensure customers get the right information, in the right context, at the right time.

We are evolving from traditional documentation to structured authoring (DITA/XML), alongside AI-assisted content workflows. This role is ideal for someone who can create scalable, high-quality content, contribute to product decisions, and improve how content works across product and AI-driven environments.

The Technical Writing Team at Optum Global Solutions plays a pivotal role in creating, managing, and delivering high-quality technical documentation across software domains. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams-developers, product managers, and subject matter experts-to transform complex technical concepts into accessible, engaging, and structured content. This role requires technical depth, strong editorial skills, and a forward-thinking approach to content strategy, information architecture, and AI-assisted documentation.

You will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

Documentation Leadership

  • Own end-to-end software documentation, from planning to publication
  • Enforce documentation standards, style guides, and best practices
  • Maintain information architecture to ensure findability, scalability, and reusability of content
  • Use AI-assisted authoring tools to enhance documentation productivity and content quality
  • Work with Git architecture and modern version control systems for collaborative documentation workflows
  • Apply automation, scripting, or lightweight programming skills to streamline content management and delivery
  • Research and understand user needs to ensure documentation supports their tasks effectively
  • Continuously improve documentation based on user feedback, analytics, and usability studies
  • Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in technical writing
  • 2 years of experience in creating and managing software documentation (APIs, SDKs, release notes)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Superior project management and stakeholder management expertise
  • Strong understanding of information architecture, content strategy, and version control (Git)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, Engineering, BCA, MCA, or a related field
  • Programming knowledge (Python, JavaScript, or C/C ) is a plus
  • Experience in leveraging AI tools for content creation and quality assurance
  • Prior experience with software documentation, and SDLC
  • Familiarity with agile workflows, content automation, and continuous documentation practices
  • Experience in managing documentation projects within open-source communities
  • Proficiency with the following tools and technologies:
    • Git, Command-line interface
    • HTML, Markdown
