Remote Engineering Consultant information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote engineering consultant, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Engineering Consultant, you need strong analytical abilities, engineering expertise in your specialty, and a relevant engineering degree or certification such as a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Familiarity with CAD software, project management tools like Asana or Jira, and communication platforms such as Slack or Zoom is usually required. Outstanding problem-solving, self-motivation, and clear communication skills help build trust and ensure project goals are met in a remote setting. These competencies are essential for delivering effective engineering solutions and maintaining client satisfaction without in-person supervision.

How does a remote engineering consultant typically collaborate with clients and internal teams across different time zones?

Remote Engineering Consultants often work with clients and colleagues spread across various locations and time zones. Effective communication is key—this usually involves regular video meetings, clear documentation, and utilizing project management tools to track progress. Flexibility in scheduling and proactive updates help ensure alignment despite distance. Consultants may also need to adapt to each client's preferred communication style and tools, making adaptability and strong organizational skills essential for success.

While both roles require technical skills, the consultant role emphasizes project-based consulting, whereas the software engineer role centers on software development within an organization.

What is a remote engineering consultant?

A Remote Engineering Consultant is a professional who provides expert engineering advice, solutions, and services to organizations from a remote location rather than working on-site. They may work independently or as part of a consulting firm, assisting clients with project planning, design, troubleshooting, and implementation in fields such as civil, electrical, mechanical, or software engineering. Remote Engineering Consultants leverage digital tools to collaborate with teams, manage projects, and deliver their expertise efficiently from anywhere in the world.

We work at the intersection of strategy, operations, and technology where we solve complex, real-world problems across warehouse design, automation, order management, transportation, and end-to-end supply chain execution.

Our teams combine deep domain expertise with strong technical capability, delivering outcomes through consulting, systems implementation, and proprietary platforms that accelerate time-to-value and reduce delivery risk.

If you enjoy working in complex environments, partnering closely with clients, and seeing your work make a tangible impact on how global commerce moves, this is the place where your skills and judgment truly come to life.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced MAWM Configuration Lead Consultant with deep expertise in Manhattan Active Warehouse Management to lead configuration design, solution validation, and implementation activities across large-scale WMS transformation programs.

This role requires strong hands-on configuration expertise, functional understanding of warehouse operations, and the ability to lead client-facing workshops, translate business requirements into scalable MAWM solutions, and guide project teams through design, configuration, testing, deployment, and stabilization.

The ideal candidate will act as a trusted advisor to business, operations, and technical stakeholders while owning key configuration workstreams and ensuring the MAWM solution is aligned with operational goals, system standards, and implementation best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead MAWM configuration workstreams across full-cycle implementation projects.
  • Own configuration design for core warehouse processes, including receiving, putaway, replenishment, inventory control, picking, packing, shipping, cross-dock, and labor-related workflows.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable Manhattan Active WMS configuration solutions.
  • Lead client workshops and design sessions to gather requirements, validate process flows, and define future-state workflows.
  • Configure Manhattan Active WMS using Configuration Director and related MAWM tools.
  • Manage and govern multi-configuration environments across project phases.
  • Collaborate with functional consultants, technical teams, integration teams, QA teams, and client stakeholders to ensure solution alignment.
  • Review and validate configuration changes to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to project standards.
  • Support integration discussions involving APIs, JSON payloads, Postman testing, ERP integrations, and external systems.
  • Partner with technical teams on Manhattan ProActive Extension requirements, validation, and solution design.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including configuration specifications, business rules, process flows, test scenarios, and design artifacts.
  • Support SIT, UAT, regression testing, defect triage, and go-live readiness activities.
  • Identify risks, configuration gaps, process inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior consultants and configuration team members.
  • Support deployment, hypercare, stabilization, and post-go-live improvement activities.
  • Act as a key point of contact for configuration-related decisions, risks, escalations, and solution recommendations.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in WMS consulting, supply chain systems implementation, or warehouse technology transformation.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Manhattan Active Warehouse Management configuration.
  • Minimum of 2 full-cycle Manhattan Active WMS implementations.
  • Proven experience leading MAWM configuration workstreams or solution design activities.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, including receiving, putaway, replenishment, cycle counting, inventory control, picking, packing, shipping, and cross-docking.
  • Experience working with Configuration Director and managing multi-configuration environments.
  • Familiarity with Manhattan ProActive Extension development concepts and related solution validation.
  • Working knowledge of APIs, JSON, Postman, and integration testing.
  • Experience supporting system integrations between WMS, ERP, TMS, automation, parcel, labor, and other supply chain systems.
  • Strong experience with SIT, UAT, defect resolution, go-live readiness, and post-go-live support.
  • Ability to lead requirements workshops, design discussions, and stakeholder alignment sessions.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage business users, technical teams, project leaders, and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid project delivery environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
  • Experience with Manhattan SCI reporting and analytics tools.
  • Knowledge of distribution center transportation, parcel, automation, robotics, or labor management processes.
  • Experience working with retail, consumer goods, eCommerce, 3PL, or omnichannel fulfillment environments.
