Remote Energy Modeling information

What is remote energy modeling?

Remote energy modeling is the process of analyzing and predicting a building's or system's energy use using digital tools, without needing to visit the site in person. Professionals use specialized software to create virtual models based on provided data such as architectural plans, utility bills, and climate information. This approach allows for energy efficiency assessments, code compliance checks, and sustainability planning from anywhere, making it efficient and cost-effective. Remote energy modeling is increasingly popular in the design and retrofitting of buildings to optimize energy consumption and reduce environmental impact.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Energy Modeler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Energy Modeler, you need a solid background in engineering, energy systems, and building science, often supported by a degree in a related field and experience with energy modeling projects. Proficiency with software tools such as EnergyPlus, eQUEST, or IES VE, and relevant certifications like LEED AP or BEMP are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret data and collaborate with project teams remotely. These competencies ensure accurate energy analyses, compliance with sustainability standards, and successful delivery of projects in a distributed work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote energy modeling roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote energy modeling professionals often encounter challenges related to data availability and quality, effective collaboration with on-site teams, and managing complex simulation software remotely. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels with clients and colleagues, utilize cloud-based modeling platforms for ease of access, and regularly verify data sources for accuracy. Building strong organizational skills and staying updated on industry best practices also helps ensure models are reliable and projects run smoothly.

Locations: South Region (Hybrid & Remote options available)

The Opportunity

Join a premier team solving the complex puzzles of the modern power grid. As a Transmission Line Engineer, you won't just be drafting; you'll be designing the backbone of the nation's energy infrastructure. From high-voltage (HV) to extra-high-voltage (EHV) systems, you will lead projects that increase capacity, integrate renewable energy, and harden the grid against the elements.

Your Impact

  • Design Excellence: Engineer overhead and underground systems using PLS-CADD, ensuring compliance with NESC, ASCE, and ACI standards.

  • End-to-End Ownership: Move projects from conceptual routing and engineering analysis to material procurement and construction-ready packages.

  • Innovation: Apply advanced modeling (PLS-TOWER, LPILE, FAD) to solve site-specific challenges, from complex foundation designs to intricate voltage conversions.

  • Leadership: (For Senior/Lead roles) Mentor junior engineers, manage client interfaces, and steer multi-disciplinary teams toward successful project delivery.

Who You Are

You are a problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Whether you are a rising Mid-level engineer or a seasoned Lead, you bring a technical eye for detail and a passion for power delivery.

Core Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and prior relevant experience in the design of electric utility transmission systems

  • Software Proficiency: Expert-level or working knowledge of PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.

  • Standards: Working knowledge of NESC, ACI, AISC, and ASCE codes.

  • Communication: Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear project scopes and client presentations.

Level-Specific Qualifications

Mid-Level

  • 2+ Years, EIT preferred, Team contributor, Design & Analysis

Senior-Level

  • 4+ Years, PE preferred, Supervisory experience, Full review & QC

Lead-Level

  • 8+ Years, PE license required, Strategic oversight & Mentorship, Budgeting, Proposals & Strategy

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience with LPILE, FAD Tools, Mathcad, or AutoCAD.

  • Hands-on Construction Management or Field Support experience.

  • Familiarity with Bentley ProjectWise.
