What is a remote endpoint device management engineer?

A Remote Endpoint Device Management Engineer is a technology professional responsible for overseeing, configuring, and maintaining endpoint devices such as laptops, desktops, mobile phones, and tablets within an organization, often from a remote location. They use specialized management tools to ensure devices are secure, compliant with company policies, and up-to-date with software and security patches. Their work involves troubleshooting device issues, deploying applications, and enforcing security protocols to protect sensitive data. These engineers play a key role in supporting remote workforces and maintaining the integrity of IT environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote endpoint device management engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Endpoint Device Management Engineer, you need expertise in endpoint security, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), and device lifecycle management, typically supported by a degree in IT or a related field. Familiarity with device management platforms like Microsoft Intune, Jamf, or VMware Workspace ONE, as well as certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator, is highly valued. Strong problem-solving, communication, and attention to detail are critical soft skills for efficiently addressing device issues and supporting end users remotely. Job description

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking an Endpoint Engineer to join our Enterprise Technology team. In this role, you will serve as a macOS subject matter expert in a complex, highly technical environment, helping to solve HRT-specific endpoint challenges and improve the day-to-day experience for users across the firm.

You will support a team of technicians, act as an escalation point for macOS engineering, security, and deployment issues, and design solutions that improve endpoint uptime, reliability, and productivity. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on troubleshooting with long-term systems thinking in order to deliver visible improvements at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a best-in-class end user computing experience
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day issues with a hands-on approach. You'll be the escalation point for macOS engineering, security, and deployment-related issues across HRT
  • Investigate recurring problems, provide long-term solutions to prevent them from happening again, and maintain clear documentation for future reference
  • Research, test, and implement best practices for our technical stack and processes
  • Educate technical and non-technical end users on best practices and help improve adoption of effective workflows and tools

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge and experience with macOS
  • Experience provisioning, deploying, and maintaining macOS endpoints using Apple Business (AB) and Mobile Device Management (MDM) such as Jamf Pro, Workspace One, or Microsoft Intune
  • Experience with macOS packaging and deployment tools such as AutoPkg and Munki
  • Proficiency with Bash or Python
  • Familiarity with enterprise networking, including 802.1X, Wi-Fi, and IPv4
  • Experience working with collaboration tools, conferencing systems, remote IT tools, and ticketing systems
  • A collaborative, can-do mindset and willingness to support others across the team
  • Ability to effectively communicate in technical and non-technical language, and translate information into comprehendible documentation and requirements company-wide
  • Ability to empathize with the end-user and swiftly craft solutions under pressure
  • Nice to have: experience with osquery, Salt, or iOS management

The estimated base salary range for this position is 150,000 to 225,000 USD per year (or local equivalent). The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role will also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package.
