Remote Embedded Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, you need expertise in embedded systems design, proficiency in programming languages like C/C++, and a background in electrical or computer engineering. Familiarity with microcontrollers, real-time operating systems (RTOS), hardware debugging tools, and version control systems such as Git is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills make candidates stand out in this role. These competencies are vital to ensure reliable embedded solutions, efficient project collaboration, and independent productivity in a remote environment.

How do Remote Embedded Engineers typically collaborate with hardware teams when working off-site?

Remote Embedded Engineers often use a combination of version control systems, video conferencing, and remote desktop tools to stay in sync with hardware teams. They may participate in daily standups, share code and test results through collaborative platforms, and sometimes use hardware simulators or remote lab access for testing. Regular documentation and clear communication are key, as are scheduled sync meetings to address integration issues and align project milestones. This structure helps ensure smooth coordination despite physical distance.

What is a Remote Embedded Engineer?

A Remote Embedded Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and maintains embedded systems, such as microcontrollers or specialized hardware, while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They use programming languages like C or C++ to create software that interacts directly with hardware components. Remote Embedded Engineers often collaborate with teams using online tools, manage tasks independently, and ensure the reliability and efficiency of embedded systems across industries such as automotive, medical devices, or IoT. Their work enables connectivity and functionality in a wide range of smart devices.

What is the difference between Remote Embedded Engineer vs Remote Firmware Engineer?

Job Summary: The Principal Configuration Analyst provides deep functional and configuration leadership for SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) within an SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud (RISE) environment. This role supports a global manufacturing and logistics network, including internal facilities and 3PL-managed warehouses. The position partners with systems integrators and business teams to design, stabilize, and optimize global trade compliance processes, including export and import controls, embargo and sanctioned party screening, customs compliance, and trade documentation. The role also supports complex cross-border, intercompany, and multi-country shipment models. The analyst works closely with Global Trade Compliance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Integration, and IT Architecture to ensure SAP GTS aligns with S/4HANA business processes, embedded Transportation Management, Private Cloud constraints, and enterprise architecture standards.
Essential Duties:
SAP S/4HANA GTS - Operational Excellence
  • Own and enhance SAP GTS configuration as the authoritative system for international trade compliance.
  • Support and optimize GTS capabilities including export control determination, embargo and sanctioned party screening, product classification, license management, customs relevance, and trade documentation.
  • Ensure GTS supports complex trade scenarios such as cross-border flows, intercompany transactions, and multi-country shipment models.
  • Partner with Global Trade Compliance, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Finance to resolve compliance exceptions and maintain stable operations across internal and 3PL-managed facilities.

S/4HANA GTS Design in a TM and 3PL-Integrated Landscape
  • Lead solution design and continuous optimization for SAP GTS within S/4HANA Private Cloud constraints.
  • Define and own GTS functional scope including product classification, legal control, screening frameworks, licensing, and customs compliance integration.
  • Design end-to-end trade compliance scenarios that account for embedded Transportation Management, multi-leg shipments, and 3PL execution.
  • Establish clear integration boundaries between SAP GTS, S/4HANA core modules, embedded TM, and external 3PL systems.
  • Promote SAP standard capabilities and sanctioned extensibility while minimizing custom logic that conflicts with Private Cloud governance.

Integration, Financial Control, and Compliance
  • Ensure SAP GTS integrates effectively with SD, MM, FI, embedded TM, and external customs brokers and trade platforms.
  • Govern trade compliance accuracy, consistency, and auditability across internal and partner-managed logistics operations.
  • Validate GTS processes against business, financial, and regulatory requirements and recommend improvements using SAP standard capabilities.
  • Produce documentation including functional requirements, design specifications, integration flows, configuration rationale, and compliance traceability.
  • Develop and execute test strategies and scripts supporting GxP, GAMP 5, and CSV validation.
  • Serve as a GTS subject-matter expert during audits, cutovers, and critical production incidents.

Leadership and Delivery
  • Serve as functional lead for SAP GTS initiatives, enhancements, and optimization workstreams.
  • Facilitate global design workshops with Trade Compliance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Integration teams, 3PL providers, and external trade partners.
  • Mentor analysts and contribute to global SAP GTS configuration standards and governance models.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and critical incident response across SAP and partner systems.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • 10+ years of SAP functional experience with deep hands-on SAP GTS expertise on SAP S/4HANA.
  • Experience supporting production GTS solutions integrated with SD, MM, FI, embedded TM, and 3PL logistics environments.
  • Strong knowledge of export controls, embargo management, sanctioned party screening, customs compliance, and cross-border trade.
  • Experience supporting intercompany and triangular shipment models.
  • Experience delivering solutions within SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud (RISE).
  • Experience leading or contributing to SAP transformation, optimization, or global template programs.
  • Experience working in Agile or SAFe delivery models.

Skills:
  • Experience with multi-country trade compliance and customs integrations.
  • Experience with high-volume trade screening and determination processes.
  • Experience integrating with customs brokers and external trade platforms.
  • Background in regulated manufacturing or distribution environments such as medical device or life sciences.
  • Understanding of how transportation execution and warehouse operating models impact trade compliance.

Core Competencies:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an enterprise compliance mindset.
  • Ability to balance Private Cloud constraints with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to align compliance, logistics, IT, and external partners.
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes across organizational and vendor boundaries.
