What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Electromagnetic Spectrum Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Electromagnetic Spectrum Manager, you need expertise in frequency management, regulatory compliance, and RF engineering, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with spectrum analysis tools, frequency allocation databases, and certification such as Certified Spectrum Manager (CSM) are often required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with regulatory agencies and technical teams. These skills ensure efficient spectrum utilization, regulatory adherence, and minimal interference with critical communication systems.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote electromagnetic spectrum management roles?

Professionals in remote electromagnetic spectrum management often encounter challenges such as coordinating with geographically dispersed teams, ensuring secure and reliable data transmission, and staying updated with evolving spectrum regulations. Additionally, troubleshooting interference issues and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders across time zones can require strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Embracing collaboration tools and continuous learning is essential to succeed in this dynamic remote work environment.

What is a Remote Electromagnetic Spectrum specialist?

A Remote Electromagnetic Spectrum specialist is a professional who manages, monitors, and analyzes the use of electromagnetic spectrum frequencies, often from a remote location. They ensure that communications systems, such as radio, satellite, and wireless networks, operate without interference and comply with regulations. Their work is critical in fields like defense, telecommunications, and space operations, where effective spectrum management is essential for secure and uninterrupted communications. These specialists may use specialized software and remote sensing equipment to perform their duties.

What is the difference between Remote Electromagnetic Spectrum vs Remote Radio Frequency Technician?

AspectRemote Electromagnetic SpectrumRemote Radio Frequency Technician
CredentialsEngineering degrees, certifications in electromagnetic theoryTechnical certifications in RF technology, electronics
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, remote monitoring, field sitesFieldwork, maintenance, testing at communication sites
Industry UsageTelecommunications, defense, researchWireless networks, broadcasting, telecom infrastructure

Remote Electromagnetic Spectrum professionals focus on understanding and analyzing the entire electromagnetic spectrum, often in research or strategic roles. In contrast, Remote Radio Frequency Technicians specialize in maintaining and troubleshooting RF equipment used in communication systems. Both roles require technical knowledge but differ in scope and daily tasks.

Job description

RKF, an Auria company is looking to hire a Software or Systems Engineer to support the Electromagnetic Battle Management-Joint (EMBM-J) program. This role is remote - Colorado, Washington DC Metro Area or NYC Metro Area preferred
Electromagnetic Battle Management-Joint (EMBM-J) improves communications, navigation and weapons systems by providing U.S. military commanders across all branches the ability to effectively coordinate spectrum while minimizing interference from other systems and maximizing effectiveness of their own systems. This software improves the effectiveness of the commanders' EW techniques as well as reducing the effectiveness of enemy EW, addressing the growing concern jamming has become in congested spectral environments. Commanders can use the software to access sophisticated planning capabilities, specifically tailored to spectrum-dependent assets, by providing deep insight into and situational awareness of the electromagnetic spectrum. This ultimately improves their decision-making confidence and accuracy and teaches them how the electromagnetic spectrum can be used during missions and what challenges may stand in the way. Towards this goal, the software allows its users to test plans in a virtual "sandbox" environment to better understand how those plans would handle a real-world scenario.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:
  • Write C++, NodeJS, and Python code
  • Develop, improve, and debug advanced RF modelling and simulation algorithms
  • Communicate technical matter related to those RF models and simulations to the customer
  • Proficiently use or interact with DevSecOps tools like package managers, content registries, dev pipelines, web servers, etc.
WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:
  • A degree in, or related to, the fields of electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, computer engineering, and/or SW development
  • 3+ years of work or otherwise demonstrable experience in at least one of the fields listed above
  • Demonstrable understanding in one of: electromagnetics, radio Tx/Rx component-specific modelling (including radars, GNSS, and SATCOM), and wireless communications fundamentals
  • Demonstrable command of C++
  • Demonstrable command of industry-standard C++ development practices, such as version control, unit/integration/automated testing, and peer programming and code review processes
WHAT THE TEAM PREFERS:
  • Secret or higher Clearance
  • A Master’s or Doctorate in a related field (see Minimum Qualifications) is preferred
  • Demonstrable understanding in one of: spectrum resource management amp; optimization, signal processing, statistics, stochastics, and frequency domain analysis
  • Demonstrable command of Python, JS, or other similar programming languages
  • Demonstrable command of industry-standard CI/CD DevSecOps practices to include pipeline management, build toolchain setup, and CI/CD automation
PAY TRANSPARENCY: The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications - skills, education amp; experience - and the position level. $100,000 - $150,000
APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 27th 2026
