Job description

The Senior Education Application Analyst serves a primary role in the support of software applications and/or modules to meet business objectives of the Education Shield. They work collaboratively with the Education Technology (ETC) Manager and Lead Education Application Analyst, acting as a liaison between staff and supervisor. They provide work direction and assistance to the ETC Analyst team and ensure that the work in the area of responsibility is properly completed. They assume responsibility for over-seeing that the day to day work in the ETC is accomplished, through communications of information, work assignments and carrying out special assignments as requested. They may assume personal responsibility as the project manager for institutional projects that are complex in scope, enterprise-wide, or have significant impact across the organization. The Senior will engage in complex Education Application work assignments and utilize latitude for independent judgment.
The Senior understands the business environment and how the use of technology can impact the area. Provides analysis and support for systems as well as system implementation and integration projects, which require system analysis, design, testing, and implementation. Maintains knowledge of existing systems including managing releases and application documentation. Functions as a liaison between business and technical areas during the planning process and provides oversight throughout the project cycle. Resolves customer problems with software and responds to requested improvements and enhancements. Research requests to determine scope, size and impact. Works with customers to elicit requirements through a variety of techniques. Validates requirement information with stakeholders to ensure completeness, correctness, and clarity. Validates the developed solution to ensure it satisfies the stated requirements. Works with a team to design, develop, or modify applications, via vendor tools or augmented tools developed within Mayo Clinic and are able to validate data integrity of changes introduced. Performs interface testing to ensure data integrity and flow. Works on and manages projects of a small to large-sized level. Monitors relationship and performance of vendor or Mayo Clinic custom application owner to include contract terms and time frame, service level agreements, and rules of engagement. Guides and advises less experienced Analysts and Education Systems Coordinators. Maintains knowledge of current and emerging technologies that directly affect enterprise processes. Maintains awareness of overall enterprise architecture (i.e. security, privacy, architecture, and data assurance). May be required to provide extended days/hours support temporarily, based on the business need.

This position is a combination of remote and on-site work; individual must live within 100 miles driving distance to the Rochester, Phoenix or Jacksonville Mayo Clinic campus.

Bachelor's Degree and six years' experience in the Systems (IT/IS) or Education Technology area is required. Master's degree preferred. Higher Education system experience preferred.


Knowledge of basic HTML, SQL, CSS, .NET, and networking. Strong analytical, problem solving, and systems analysis skills are required. Demonstrated ability to function in a self-directed manner in a multitask environment. Should possess the ability to interact effectively with customers and understand their needs. 
Must develop and maintain an understanding of major operating support systems and overall policies, procedures and objectives of the organization. 
Knows how to use Mayo and its resources effectively. Experience in strategic and tactical decision making; demonstrated history of increased responsibility in management and change leadership.
Must have strong communication and human relation skills to carry out management duties and to interact with a variety of people at different levels within the organization. 
Incumbent must be able to independently manage a varied workload of responsibilities with multiple priorities through exercising sound judgment and leadership. 
Characteristics of incumbent sought: Experience working within Education systems and understanding of basic integration points. Understands Business Intelligence Strategies and testing best practices. Demonstrates knowledge of Education business processes and associated technology and service delivery options. Supervisory experience of professional staff. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate project management, implementation and reporting skills. Demonstrate leadership, mentoring, and delegation skills. Experience in making and implementing decisions in a complex environment. Proficient in WORD, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio and MS Projects. Prior experience in setting up customer service, support/help desks, training and education highly desired. Exhibits diplomacy, tact, initiative and organizational personal skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential.
