Remote Electrical Power Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Electrical Power Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Electrical Power Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering principles, power systems analysis, and typically a relevant degree such as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Familiarity with technical tools like AutoCAD, ETAP, and SCADA systems, as well as professional engineering (PE) certification, is often required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for collaborating across locations and managing projects remotely. These skills ensure the reliable design, monitoring, and optimization of power systems while effectively working with distributed teams.

How does working remotely as an Electrical Power Engineer affect collaboration and project communication?

As a remote Electrical Power Engineer, you will typically use digital collaboration tools like video conferencing, project management software, and shared design platforms to communicate with your team and clients. While you may not be onsite, regular virtual meetings and clear documentation are essential to ensure alignment on project requirements and timelines. Effective communication skills become even more important, as you will often coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across different locations. Adapting to remote workflows can be challenging at first, but many organizations provide robust support systems to help remote engineers stay connected and productive.

What are Remote Electrical Power Engineers?

Remote Electrical Power Engineers are professionals who design, analyze, and oversee electrical power systems, such as those used for energy generation, transmission, and distribution, while working from a remote location. They use advanced software tools to create and evaluate power system models, ensure compliance with safety and industry standards, and troubleshoot technical issues. Their work often involves collaborating with on-site teams, utilities, or clients through digital communication to ensure reliable and efficient delivery of electrical power. This role is ideal for engineers who have strong technical skills and are comfortable working independently in a virtual environment.

What is the difference between Remote Electrical Power Engineer vs Remote Electrical Design Engineer?

Job Description

CRB is seeking an experienced Senior Lead Electrical Engineer with a strong background in building and industrial power systems to lead electrical design efforts on complex projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of low‑ and medium‑voltage electrical systems, mentoring engineering teams, and partnering with clients, project managers, and construction teams from concept through construction.

This role is ideal for a licensed electrical engineer with hands‑on experience in power distribution, lighting, and special systems who enjoys technical leadership, solving complex field challenges, and delivering high‑quality, constructible designs in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

Lead Electrical Design & Project Delivery

  • Lead electrical design for complex projects across all phases, including programming, design development, construction documentation, and construction support
  • Design and coordinate low‑ and medium‑voltage power distribution systems, including switchgear, panelboards, transformers, feeders, grounding, and protective devices
  • Perform advanced power system calculations, including load studies, short‑circuit analysis, voltage drop, and arc flash evaluations
  • Develop electrical construction drawings and specifications that are fully code‑compliant and construction‑ready
  • Identify and resolve complex existing conditions through site visits and field surveys

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Direct and coordinate the work of electrical engineers and designers at various experience levels
  • Collaborate with project managers on scope definition, scheduling, staffing, and electrical discipline budgets
  • Work closely with architectural, mechanical, structural, process, and construction teams to ensure integrated design solutions
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, utilities, and equipment manufacturers to support design and installation of electrical systems

Construction & Quality Support

  • Provide technical leadership during construction, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, site observations, and punch list development
  • Perform detailed quality reviews of electrical documents, calculations, and designs to ensure technical accuracy and overall project quality

Mentorship & Growth

  • Mentor and develop junior and mid‑level electrical engineers and designers
  • Promote best practices, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the electrical team
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • ABET‑accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in a consulting or design firm environment
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Proven experience designing and leading projects involving building or industrial power systems and voltage‑based electrical infrastructure

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in GMP manufacturing environments, including life sciences or food & beverage facilities
  • Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes
  • Hands‑on experience with:
    • Low‑ and medium‑voltage systems
    • Power distribution, lighting, and special systems
    • Short‑circuit, coordination, load flow, and arc flash studies
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical power and system performance issues
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams
