Job description

We are seeking an experienced commercial Electronic Security Systems Field Engineer to join our federal team. This is a remote / virtual role with the ability to travel extensively to support project needs for various Department of Defense and other federal government sites across the United States. This role will require extensive travel, typically around 75%. All travel related expenses are paid for both the company.

Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS) is a specialized team serving as a trusted partner to the federal government. We help modernize U.S. military installations, Department of Defense and other federal agency facilities to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure.
Location: Remote/Virtual with the ability to travel up to 75% of the time. Based in the Huntsville, AL or Washington D.C. Metro/DMV area preferred.
Pay range: $85,000 - $105,000 base salary. Negotiable based on experience.
Bonus Eligible: Yes, 10%
Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment
Vacation:
3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays and 10 standard holidays per calendar year (6.5 weeks in total).
Travel: Up to 75% supporting sites all around the United States. All travel related expenses are paid for by the company. 

As a Traveling Security Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Act as an on-site project leader to plan, execute, and complete Electronic Security projects with assigned customers in a safe and cost effective manner. 
  • Performs or delegates tasks as required to execute and fully complete assigned projects including: system programming, integration, installation coordination, system and network commissioning and project closeout
  • Develops project plans and coordinates the required resources to ensure timely and cost effective installation and completion of assigned projects.
  • Provides work direction to subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administration as necessary

  • Completes typical installation of hardware design and software programming using established standards as required.
  • Manages and completes the loading, device verification, and commissioning of all system controllers as required. Validates complete system functionality and resolves issues with subcontractors and others to ensure proper operation. Provides accurate project as-built and commissioning documentation
  • Provides coaching, mentoring and technical assistance to Security Technicians, Electrical Installers, System Designers, Subcontractors, and other less experienced team members.
  • Ensures work performed is in compliance with state, local and Federal legal requirements, and ensures Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors adhere to all safety standards.
  • Assists with the selection, ordering, budget and delivery schedule of materials to be procured for the projects assigned via our web-based tool process
  • Effectively communicates the status of projects to management as required and assists with monthly forecasts of revenue, costs, and gross margin.
  • Performs site-specific training for owner/operator on the total system in full or with assistance. Ensures owner/operator has been trained. Provides proper documentation and manuals for system operation.
  • Adheres to safety standards, local and national security and fire codes, with a high degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of field experience in the commercial or industrial Electronic Security industry.
  • Technical, hands-on experience with systems design, commissioning and/or programming of Electronic Security Systems.
  • The ability to communicate technical material to a nontechnical audience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and general windows environment
  • The ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as needed. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency working with fiber and networks
  • Experience working with a wide variety of commercial Electronic Security Systems; Softwarehouse C-cure 9000, Lenel, Genetech, Bosch BVMS, etc.
    • Lenel & Vindicator are preferred
  • Lenel programming experience
  • Experience managing or leading security related projects and associated teams

Preferred Education:

  • Electronics certification from an Accredited Technical School
  • Lenel certified
