  • Mentorship from experienced editors and journalists.
  • Hands-on experience producing work for nationally recognized media brands.
  • Exposure to editorial strategy, audience development, product innovation, and visual storytelling.
  • Opportunities to build a professional portfolio of published work.
  • Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams in a modern digital newsroom.

This role will require a weekly in-office presence on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at our corporate office at 7 World Trade Center, New York, NY, with a total of 35 hours per week.

Hourly rate: $23 + Paid Time Off (PTO) and benefits eligible.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Research, analyze, and interpret public and proprietary datasets to identify compelling editorial opportunities.
  • Transform complex information into engaging visual and data-driven storytelling.
  • Develop concepts for new editorial products and recurring data features across Fast Company and Inc.
  • Collaborate with editorial, design, product, and video teams to bring data stories to life across multiple platforms.
  • Support reporters and editors by providing research, data analysis, and insights that strengthen their reporting.
  • Help build scalable workflows and processes that enable faster, more efficient production of data journalism projects.
  • Produce original reporting inspired by your own research and analysis.
  • Stay informed on emerging data sources, visualization techniques, and AI-enabled research tools that enhance newsroom capabilities.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Recent graduate with a demonstrated interest in journalism, data analysis, business, economics, public policy, or a related field.
  • Prior journalism or media experience through campus publications, newsletters, podcasts, digital media, and/or internships at a news organization is highly preferred.
  • Someone who is naturally curious, highly organized, and excited to learn in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and analytical communication skills.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to identify meaningful trends within complex datasets.
  • Experience using AI-powered research and productivity tools to improve efficiency and accelerate discovery.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a collaborative newsroom environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, along with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and editorial systems.
  • A collaborative mindset, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to contribute wherever needed.
  • Adaptability, intellectual curiosity, and enthusiasm for solving challenging problems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound editorial judgment.
