Remote Edi Director information

What are some common challenges faced by a Remote EDI Director and how can they be addressed?

A Remote EDI Director often encounters challenges related to coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring seamless data exchange across different platforms and time zones. Effective communication and robust project management tools are essential to align stakeholders and manage integration timelines. Additionally, maintaining data security and compliance standards can be complex, requiring ongoing training and regular audits. Building strong relationships with both internal IT staff and external partners is key to overcoming these challenges and ensuring successful EDI operations.

What is a Remote EDI Director?

A Remote EDI Director is a senior professional who oversees an organization's Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) operations while working from a remote location. EDI Directors are responsible for managing the strategy, implementation, and maintenance of systems that allow businesses to exchange documents electronically with partners and clients. They lead teams, ensure data security, optimize workflows, and troubleshoot EDI-related issues. The remote aspect means they coordinate these activities virtually, often collaborating with distributed teams and stakeholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote EDI Director?

To thrive as a Remote EDI Director, you need extensive experience in electronic data interchange (EDI), strong leadership abilities, and a relevant bachelor's degree, often in IT or business. Familiarity with EDI mapping tools, transaction standards (such as X12 or EDIFACT), integration platforms, and project management systems is crucial, along with certifications like PMP or EDI-specific credentials. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills set top performers apart, especially when leading remote teams and managing multiple stakeholders. These competencies are vital for ensuring seamless data exchange, regulatory compliance, and efficient cross-functional collaboration in a distributed work environment.

Responsibilities

The Director of Product Management, Enterprise Connectivity at Workato is a leadership role that combines deep tactical involvement with strategic ownership. This person owns the roadmap and vision for Workato's connectivity platform — spanning connectors to SaaS apps, cloud platforms, databases, and legacy and on-premises systems, as well as the platform extensions that expand their functional reach: Data Tables, Decision Models, EDI, RPA, and MFT — while staying closely engaged in execution, problem-solving, and process improvement alongside the team. Leading and developing a team of PMs is central to the role, providing the structure and direction that allows both the team and the product area to scale.

In this role, you will also be responsible to:

  • Strategy & Vision

    • Define and own the vision and strategy for Workato's connectivity platform — with connectors at the core, and platform extensions (Data Tables, Decision Models, EDI, RPA, MFT) expanding their reach.

    • Monitor competitive dynamics and customer needs across the integration landscape, with a sharp focus on how AI capabilities are redefining connectivity platforms.

  • Product Roadmap Development

    • Own the enterprise connectivity roadmap end-to-end, managing interdependencies across a tightly coupled product surface while balancing customer demand, competitive positioning, and long-term investment.

    • Maintain roadmap alignment with engineering, sales, and customer success to ensure consistent prioritization and successful delivery.

  • Execution & Delivery

    • Take an active role in identifying and resolving execution bottlenecks — improving processes, clarifying ownership, and ensuring the team has what it needs to deliver.

    • Lead product launches end-to-end, from internal enablement through customer adoption, coordinating across functions to ensure consistent and well-executed rollouts.

  • Team Leadership

    • Shape the team's portfolio structure and ownership model to ensure full coverage across a wide product surface, while continuously hiring, mentoring, and developing PM talent.

    • Actively drive the team's adoption of AI tools as part of day-to-day product development practice.

  • Performance & Accountability

    • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics around connector adoption, usage, customer satisfaction, performance, and reliability.

    • Establish and maintain the team's operating rhythm — prioritization cycles, reviews, and progress reporting — ensuring consistent execution across a broad product scope.

  • Customer & Market Engagement

    • Actively engage with enterprise customers, prospects, and partners to understand their integration use cases, needs, and expectations.

    • Represent enterprise connectivity capabilities and strategy in customer briefings, industry conferences, and analyst discussions.

RequirementsQualifications / Experience / Technical Skills
  • 12+ years of Product Management experience, with a focus on integration, connectors, APIs, or enterprise platforms.

  • Minimum 3 years in a senior product leadership role (Group PM or Director), with experience managing teams of varying seniority — knowing when to provide close guidance and when to extend autonomy.

  • Proven experience building and scaling connector or integration products at leading SaaS/cloud companies or integration providers (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi, Informatica, Zapier, Fivetran, Salesforce, ServiceNow).

  • Strong familiarity with cloud integration patterns, connector architectures, API standards (REST, SOAP, OData, GraphQL), and event-driven and messaging patterns (webhooks, event streaming, CDC).

  • Deep knowledge of the SaaS/cloud ecosystem and common SaaS business applications (CRM, ERP, HR, ITSM).

  • Familiarity with one or more platform extension domains — RPA, EDI, MFT, or similar — is a plus.

  • Experience collaborating with engineering on complex technical decisions around platform architecture and system design.

  • Track record of successful product launches, customer adoption, and measurable market impact.

  • Practical experience building AI-powered product capabilities — including AI-assisted integrations, automated connector creation, and generative AI features.

Soft Skills / Personal Characteristics
  • Focused on building the team's proficiency with AI tools and workflows as a standard part of day-to-day product development practice.

  • Experienced working in fast-paced, high-growth environments — comfortable improving processes on the fly and driving clarity through ambiguity.
