What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Drive Test Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Drive Test Engineer, you need expertise in RF engineering, wireless network optimization, and a relevant engineering degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with drive test tools such as TEMS, Nemo, and network analysis software, as well as understanding of LTE/5G technologies, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These capabilities ensure accurate network performance evaluation, efficient troubleshooting, and effective collaboration with distributed teams.

How does a Remote Drive Test Engineer collaborate with on-site teams to ensure accurate network data collection and analysis?

As a Remote Drive Test Engineer, you will work closely with field technicians and network optimization teams through frequent virtual meetings and real-time communication tools. Your responsibilities may include remotely configuring equipment, monitoring data collection, troubleshooting issues, and guiding on-site personnel to ensure test accuracy. Clear documentation and effective collaboration are crucial for resolving challenges quickly and delivering actionable insights for network performance improvements. This role often requires flexibility, problem-solving skills, and the ability to coordinate across different time zones and departments.

What are Remote Drive Test Engineers?

Remote Drive Test Engineers are professionals who conduct and analyze wireless network tests from a remote location. They use specialized software and equipment to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize mobile networks without being physically present at the test sites. Their work helps ensure good network coverage, quality, and performance for users. This role often involves interpreting drive test data, identifying network issues, and recommending improvements, all while collaborating with on-site teams or automated systems.

What is the difference between Remote Drive Test Engineer vs Field Drive Test Engineer?

AspectRemote Drive Test EngineerField Drive Test Engineer
CertificationsTelecom certifications, RF testing certificationsTelecom certifications, RF testing certifications
Work EnvironmentRemote, often in a control room or from homeOn-site, in the field during testing
Industry UsageTelecom companies, network providersTelecom companies, network providers
Job FocusData analysis, remote monitoring, report generationPhysical testing, equipment setup, on-site data collection

Both roles require similar certifications and industry experience, but Remote Drive Test Engineers focus on remote data analysis and reporting, while Field Drive Test Engineers are hands-on, conducting tests on-site. The choice depends on whether the job emphasizes fieldwork or remote data management.

Job description

Job Purpose:
Navitas Semiconductor (Nasdaq: NVTS) is a next-generation power semiconductor leader driving innovation in gallium nitride (GaN) and high-voltage silicon carbide (SiC) technologies. Our products enable faster, more efficient power delivery across AI data centers, high-performance computing, energy and grid infrastructure, and industrial electrification.
With more than 30 years of combined expertise in wide bandgap technologies, GaNFast™ power ICs integrate GaN power, drive, control, sensing, and protection, delivering faster power delivery, higher system density, and greater efficiency. GeneSiC™ high-voltage SiC devices leverage patented trench-assisted planar technology to provide industry-leading voltage capability, efficiency, and reliability for medium-voltage grid and infrastructure applications.
We are seeking a Senior Director of Test Engineering to join our fast-growing, collaborative team. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, energetic, and able to thrive in a high-growth, innovative environment, contributing directly to technologies that are shaping the future of power electronics.
The Senior Director of Test Engineering leads all test engineering activities for SiC and GaN power semiconductor products. This role sets strategy, defines test methodology, and ensures high-quality, scalable test solutions from prototype through high-volume manufacturing. The director partners with R&D, product engineering, operations, quality, and external test partners to deliver reliable device characterization, production test flows, and test automation infrastructure. The lead is responsible for technical roadmap decisions and interfacing into eco system partners including ATE vendors, handler companies, socket and consumable equipment suppliers and OSATs. This role ensures robust test solution execution, stable manufacturing, high yield, and continuous improvement for wide-bandgap power semiconductor technologies. Due to a broad product portfolio supporting applications including datacenter, space, solar charging and industrial high-power products, the successful candidate must ensure compliance of diverse end customer requirements through our development and qualification processes as well as throughout our test manufacturing eco-system. This role ensures products consistently meet stringent quality, reliability, regulatory and yield requirements. Site strategy incudes enabling a new site within US preferably Az or Texas as well as growth in low cost regions including Philippines and/or Malaysia augmenting existing sites in Torrance Ca, Shanghai China, Hsinchu Taiwan
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Leadership & Strategy
  • Define and execute the vision and strategy for test engineering across all SiC and GaN product lines.
  • Establish test standards, architecture, and metrics aligned with business goals.
  • Build and lead a high-performing test engineering team (managers, engineers, technicians).
  • Drive test cost optimization while maintaining high test coverage and quality.

Product & Test Development
  • Lead development of test plans for new SiC/GaN power devices (MOSFETs, diodes, modules, etc.).
  • Oversee creation and validation of test methods for DC, AC, dynamic, reliability, and parametric tests.
  • Partner with product and design teams to ensure testability and feedback into design for test (DFT).
  • Define test coverage requirements to ensure device performance specifications and reliability.

Test Systems & Automation
  • Own architecture and deployment of automated test equipment (ATE) and custom test hardware.
