In this role, you will execute testing strategies, contribute to test automation and work within a global QA structure guided by senior QA leadership located in Europe.

Detailed Description

As a Specialist in Quality Engineering, you will play a hands-on role in delivering robust software solutions. You will embrace a "Shift-Left" testing culture, analyzing technical specifications alongside developers to identify logic gaps before coding begins. While your main responsibility is ensuring the quality of ongoing feature development, you will also occasionally assist with reverse-engineering and testing legacy Java workflows to ensure functional parity in the new .NET ecosystem when needed.

You will utilize and expand upon a modern test automation framework (e.g., Playwright using TypeScript or C#) established by the global QA team. Collaborating daily with developers in Toronto and regional teams, you will write test cases, automate critical paths and validate complex data workflows. You will receive technical mentorship and architectural standards from senior QA leadership located in Europe. However, you are expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, independently owning the end-to-end testing lifecycle for the features delivered by your local development team.

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Design, write and execute comprehensive manual and automated test cases focused primarily on brand-new application features.
  • Occasionally support the application rewrite project by testing legacy Java features to ensure absolute functional parity in the newly rewritten .NET applications.
  • Actively participate in requirements gathering and technical discussions (Shift-Left), analyzing specifications early in the development lifecycle to identify edge cases and logic gaps.
  • Contribute to the automated testing framework using modern tools (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) following the architectural standards set by the global QA lead.
  • Execute API tests to validate backend services and integrations between the .NET application layers.
  • Perform database testing using SQL to verify data integrity in relational databases (Oracle DB) during feature development and data migration tasks.
  • Monitor and analyze automated test runs within CI/CD pipelines, proactively investigating test failures and maintaining test stability to ensure smooth releases.
  • Manage the end-to-end defect lifecycle, from identifying and documenting complex bugs to working closely with developers on root cause analysis and verifying fixes.
  • Conduct thorough UI and cross-browser testing for newly developed features to ensure a seamless, responsive and bug-free user experience.
  • Assist in preparing test data and staging environments for User Acceptance Testing (UAT), supporting business stakeholders during the final validation phases.
  • Work closely with the local development team in Toronto and collaborate cross-functionally in an Agile environment to isolate, report and verify bug fixes promptly.
  • Maintain and organize test plans, ensuring all distinct workflows and user scenarios are comprehensively covered, while generating clear test execution reports to give global stakeholders visibility into release readiness.
  • Collaborate with the extended global QA team, participating in test plan reviews and sharing best practices to maintain a high standard of release readiness.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Quality Assurance and Software Testing, with exposure to testing complex web applications and verifying complex business logic.
  • Strong capability in test execution and requirements analysis with the ability to collaborate effectively with developers and business stakeholders to refine technical specifications.
  • Hands-on experience writing and maintaining automated test scripts using modern programming languages (e.g., TypeScript, JavaScript or C#) and tools (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, SpecFlow/Reqnroll, NUnit/xUnit).
  • Solid proficiency in API Testing (using tools like Postman, Swagger or RestSharp) to validate data exchange.
  • Experience in Database Testing and SQL, capable of writing queries to validate data integrity (Oracle DB experience is an asset).
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills for cross-cultural collaboration, clarifying technical requirements and ensuring clear communication between the development team and global business stakeholders.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment with a solid understanding of iterative delivery and CI/CD integration.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, acting as a reliable and collaborative team player within the immediate development team.
  • Self-driven and proactive mindset, with the ability to independently own testing tasks, manage your workload and make sound QA decisions without requiring constant supervision from senior leadership.
  • Basic familiarity or openness to exploring Java applications to understand existing legacy workflows is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of Supply Chain Management (SCM) processes or ERP workflows is considered an asset (openness and willingness to learn these business processes is highly valued).
  • Openness to utilizing modern development tools and AI-assisted engineering practices for test generation and maintenance while applying strong critical thinking to review, refine and take full ownership of the final implementation.
