Job description

Controls Programmer 2

Automation | Full-Time | Onsite – York, Nebraska

Take Control of Complex Automation Projects

Ready to take your industrial controls experience to the next level?

Cyclonaire is looking for an experienced Controls Programmer 2 to join our Automation team in York, Nebraska. This is a hands-on technical role for someone who is ready to independently design, program, test, commission, and troubleshoot complete automation control systems across Cyclonaire’s full product line.

You’ll work with Allen-Bradley PLCs, FactoryTalk HMI platforms, EtherNet/IP networks, VFDs, industrial instrumentation, and electromechanical systems—taking projects from initial specifications through testing, startup, and customer handover.

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend all of your time behind a desk. You’ll collaborate with Engineering and Production, lead testing on equipment in our facility, and travel to customer sites to bring systems online and solve real-world automation challenges.

What You’ll Do
  • Independently design and program complete automation control systems using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000
  • Develop Ladder Logic routines, AOIs, UDTs, sequences, and interlock logic
  • Design and configure I/O architectures, including local and distributed I/O
  • Build complete HMI projects using FactoryTalk View and FactoryTalk Optix
  • Configure alarms, historian trending, user access, and remote connectivity
  • Design and commission EtherNet/IP networks, VFDs, remote I/O, and smart instrumentation
  • Lead pre-shipment testing to ensure equipment meets Cyclonaire and customer requirements
  • Serve as the technical lead during onsite commissioning, including I/O checkout, sequence validation, troubleshooting, and customer handover
  • Work directly with customers during software design reviews, installation, commissioning, and service activities
  • Help develop and maintain Cyclonaire automation standards and work instructions
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Controls Programmer 1 team members
What You’ll Bring

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Automation, or a related technical field plus 3–5 years of industrial controls programming experience, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated practical experience
  • Independent proficiency with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000
  • Experience with FactoryTalk View SE/ME and FactoryTalk Optix
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131-3 programming languages, including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagram
  • Experience with SCADA systems, EtherNet/IP networks, VFD configuration, and industrial instrumentation
  • Practical experience with electromechanical process controls, electrical power distribution, network integration, and HMI software
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements, OSHA standards, and applicable NEC/NFPA/UL design codes
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects, priorities, schedules, and technical decisions
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Professional communication skills and confidence working directly with customers
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 20–35%
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and valid passport

A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent will also be considered.
