Job description

Why Fresche? We don't just keep legacy systems running - we transform them. For over a decade, Fresche Solutions has been the partner organizations trust for IBM i modernization. You'll work from anywhere in North America, with genuine flexibility and a culture where our values actually shape the technical decisions we make every day.
The Impact You'll Make
This is more than a programming role. As a Senior RPG Programmer/Analyst, you will lead the analysis, design, development, and support of business-critical IBM i applications and EDI integrations. Leveraging your expertise in RPG, DB2, and Cleo Extol EDI solutions, you will help clients optimize business processes, streamline partner communications, and modernize their IBM i environments while maintaining the reliability and performance their operations depend on.
You will work closely with business stakeholders, trading partners, and technical teams to deliver scalable solutions that connect legacy systems with modern integration requirements, ensuring seamless data exchange across the enterprise.
What You'll Do
  • Lead EDI initiatives. Design, develop, support, and enhance EDI solutions using Cleo Extol, ensuring reliable integration between IBM i applications, customers, suppliers, and third-party systems.
  • Consult and collaborate. Partner with clients to analyze business requirements, troubleshoot application and EDI issues, and deliver solutions across the full project lifecycle.
  • Architect and develop. Analyze, design, code, test, and maintain applications using RPG, RPGLE, Free-Form RPG, Embedded SQL, and DB2 for i.
  • Manage integrations. Develop and support data exchanges leveraging EDI standards such as X12, EDIFACT, and XML, while ensuring compliance with trading partner requirements.
  • Ensure quality. Safeguard application and integration integrity through unit, integration, user acceptance, and regression testing.
  • Document and communicate. Create and maintain clear technical documentation for applications, interfaces, EDI maps, and business processes.
  • Lead and mentor. Provide technical guidance, perform code reviews, and support junior team members when required.
  • Modernize. Help clients evolve legacy IBM i applications and integration frameworks into scalable, modern ILE-based solutions.

What You Bring
  • Extensive IBM i expertise with proven experience developing and supporting enterprise solutions on IBM i (iSeries / AS400).
  • Strong Cleo Extol (EDI) experience, including EDI mapping, translation, onboarding trading partners, troubleshooting transactions, and maintaining production EDI environments.
  • Deep RPG knowledge, including RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE, Free-Form RPG, Embedded SQL, service programs, and modern ILE development practices.
  • EDI standards expertise, including experience with ANSI X12, EDIFACT, XML, CSV, and other electronic data interchange formats.
  • Advanced DB2 for i skills, including database design, SQL programming, query optimization, and data modeling.
  • Business acumen, particularly within distribution, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, finance, or insurance environments.
  • Integration experience, connecting IBM i applications with external systems, APIs, web services, and middleware solutions.
  • Change management and deployment experience, including structured release processes and source control practices.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders effectively.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with Cleo Harmony, Clarify, or other Cleo integration platforms.
  • Experience supporting high-volume EDI environments within manufacturing, distribution, retail, logistics, or supply chain organizations.
  • Knowledge of IBM i ERP solutions such as Infor LX, BPCS, Infor XA, MAPICS, PRMS, JDE, Frontier, or HFA.
  • Experience with RDi or Eclipse-based IBM i development tools.
  • Git, SVN, or other source control tools in an IBM i environment.
  • Experience with impact analysis and application modernization tools.
  • Integration experience with REST APIs, JSON, XML, GoAnywhere, FTP/SFTP, and other data exchange technologies.
  • Knowledge of trading partner onboarding, EDI compliance, and supply chain data integration best practices.

Ready to Transform the Industry?
We're looking for creative, motivated people who do their best work in fast-paced environments. If you're committed to excellence and want to work with the best in the IBM i space, we'd love to hear from you.
