Distribution DesignerJob Overview
We are seeking a Distribution Designer to support power distribution projects through design development, field data collection, and technical documentation. This role involves preparing detailed drawings, specifications, estimates, and engineering support materials while collaborating closely with engineers, designers, and field personnel.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate manual and computer-aided design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and other design tools.
- Develop detailed design packages in accordance with project requirements, engineering standards, and company procedures.
- Support the preparation of cost estimates, technical specifications, material requisitions, and engineering evaluations.
- Assist with engineering calculations and technical analyses to support design decisions.
- Conduct field surveys to collect measurements, assess existing infrastructure, and gather data required for project design.
- Perform make-ready analyses for utility and distribution projects.
- Coordinate design activities and equipment delivery schedules to support project timelines.
- Monitor field conditions and equipment performance as needed to validate design assumptions.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and field personnel to develop practical, constructible solutions.
- Apply knowledge of distribution engineering, electrical systems, surveying, GIS, mapping, and CADD tools to support project execution.
- Manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Participate in training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and a commitment to quality and safety.
Required Qualifications
- Experience creating and modifying design and construction drawings using AutoCAD.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable industry standards.
- Familiarity with make-ready analysis and utility infrastructure design.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines:
- Distribution Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Surveying
- GIS/Mapping
- CADD
- Instrumentation & Controls
- Transmission or Substation Design
- Ability to support engineering calculations, estimates, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut for field surveys when required.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent technical education.
- Experience in power distribution, utility engineering, electrical design, or related fields.
- Experience with GIS, mapping technologies, or additional CADD platforms.
- Field surveying experience involving utility poles or distribution infrastructure.
- Interest in learning and growing within the utility and engineering industry.
- Entry-level candidates with make-ready analysis exposure and strong technical aptitude are encouraged to apply.
Work Environment
- Initial training and onboarding will be conducted in-office.
- Once established in the role, employees typically work in a hybrid schedule, with up to two remote workdays per week.
- Fully remote opportunities may be available for experienced designers who can work independently.
- Field-focused team members will regularly travel throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut using company-provided vehicles to survey utility poles and distribution infrastructure.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
