Job Title: Distribution Designer / Engineering Specialist - Pole Services (Street Lighting)

ATTENTION: Position is 100% remote but candidates have to reside in the greater Seattle area/Washington State as some field work will be required.

Job Description

This Distribution Designer / Engineering Specialist role supports Project Managers in the Pole Services (Street Lighting) team for a major utility. You will focus on CAD drafting, field visits, and coordination with municipalities and commercial and residential customers across the electric service territory. The position centers on the design, installation, maintenance, and ongoing account support for street lighting and related public improvement projects, offering hands-on utility design experience in a high-growth, community-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field visits in assigned territories within Washington to gather site information and verify existing conditions for street lighting and distribution projects.
  • Support Project Managers with the coordination, execution, and ongoing maintenance of street lighting projects, ensuring alignment with project schedules and requirements.
  • Create and update detailed AutoCAD drawings for electric street lighting and related distribution design projects.
  • Analyze work orders, construction packages, and associated documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
  • Interpret permits, utility standards, and design requirements to develop compliant and efficient designs.
  • Assist with project estimating and basic project analysis, including quantities, materials, and scope verification.
  • Route and delegate workload to appropriate Project Managers to balance priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of high-volume deliverables in a production-driven environment.
  • Maintain consistent communication with internal teams, municipalities, and customers to support permitting, design approvals, and project execution.
  • Contribute to public improvement projects such as roadway and sidewalk enhancements, power pole relocations, right-of-way expansions, and water, gas, and electric system upgrades.

Essential Skills

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD Design, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on AutoCAD drafting experience with the ability to work independently from day one.
  • Foundational engineering knowledge in civil, electrical, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within utilities such as electric, gas, water/sewer, or overhead/underground systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for design and drafting of power distribution and street lighting projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, and permits.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, municipalities, and customers.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage high-volume workloads and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Experience in design and drafting for power distribution or related infrastructure.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with utility system design, including electric, gas, or piping systems.
  • Experience supporting Public Utility Districts (PUD) or similar utility organizations.
  • Exposure to MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) or broader infrastructure design projects.
  • Experience with public improvement initiatives such as roadway and sidewalk improvements, power pole relocations, right-of-way expansions, and water or gas/electric system upgrades.

Work Environment

This position is 100% remote and requires a dedicated workspace at home that supports focused, professional work. You will use high-capacity storage and specialized utility client software for design and drafting. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, in a high-volume, production-driven environment where accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of design packages are critical. Candidates that apply are expected to reside in the greater Seattle area/Washington State or have current plans to relocate to the area. No relocation assistance is provided.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
