Native American Transformer Services (NTS) is a nationally recognized leader in power transformer maintenance, testing, reconditioning, and repair. We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as a key technical leader supporting transformer service projects across the United States. This role offers the opportunity to work on critical utility and industrial infrastructure projects while helping clients maintain the reliability and performance of the nation's electrical grid.

Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead engineering analysis, testing, diagnostics, and reconditioning activities for large power transformers and associated substation equipment. This highly visible role serves as a primary technical authority, providing engineering oversight, client consultation, and support for field operations across multiple project locations.

Compensation

$115,000 โ€“ $155,000 annually
Plus performance bonus and comprehensive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead engineering assessments, diagnostics, and technical evaluations of power transformers ranging from 5 MVA to 500+ MVA.
  • Perform and interpret advanced transformer testing, including:
    • Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA)
    • Power Factor Testing
    • Excitation Testing
    • Turns Ratio Testing
    • Insulation Resistance Testing
    • Impulse Testing
  • Develop technical reports, repair recommendations, and engineering scopes of work.
  • Conduct root cause failure analyses and provide refurbishment recommendations.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, test plans, and work instructions.

Field & Project Support

  • Travel to client facilities nationwide to provide engineering oversight and technical guidance.
  • Support commissioning, energization, and acceptance testing activities.
  • Ensure field execution aligns with engineering standards, safety requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations leaders to deliver projects on schedule and within scope.

Client Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to utility and industrial clients.
  • Participate in project scoping, technical reviews, and business development efforts.
  • Present engineering findings and recommendations to both technical and executive stakeholders.

Quality & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, ANSI, NETA, and OSHA standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes and testing procedures.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineering staff.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 7โ€“15 years of progressive experience in power transformer engineering, testing, maintenance, or field service.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with transformer diagnostic testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of IEEE C57 standards, NETA testing specifications, and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Experience supporting field-based or multi-site engineering operations.
  • Ability to travel up to 50โ€“60% nationwide.

Preferred

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
  • Experience with EHV transformers (230kV+), autotransformers, or phase-shifting transformers.
  • Knowledge of transformer oil processing, dry-out procedures, and field repair techniques.
  • Prior experience with a transformer OEM, utility, or transformer service organization.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and client communication skills.
