Job description

Job Responsibilities The Assistant Director of WinthropLIFE coordinates and facilitates the daily operations of the program, collaborating with faculty, staff, and community partners to provide a comprehensive and inclusive postsecondary education experience for students with intellectual disabilities. This position recruits, hires, trains, and supervises Peer Mentors and develops individualized student schedules using a person-centered planning approach. The Assistant Director supports students in achieving their highest level of independence, competitive employment and active participation in local communities.

Recruits Peer Mentor applicants through a variety of outreach strategies, including on-campus recruiting efforts, social media campaigns, and presentations to classes and student organizations. Represents WinthropLIFE in a professional manner on and off campus including travel for conferences or school visits up to five times per semester. Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates Peer Mentors.

Oversees Peer Mentor payments. Develops individual student schedules using a person-centered planning approach. Maintains current and past student records.

Creates resources to support LIFE students, staff and mentors. Develops and implements program evaluation tools. Maintains current policy and procedures for WinthropLIFE.

Minimum and Additional Requirements Bachelor's degree in special education, health and human services, or counseling. Five years of experience teaching special education at the middle or secondary level. Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative, self-motivation, and accountability. Ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively as part of a team.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive, professional relationships with diverse individuals and groups. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, effectively, and appropriately to varied audiences. Skill in developing creative solutions to challenges and adapting approaches to meet diverse needs and objectives.

Preferred Qualifications Experience training, mentoring, or providing professional development to students, educators, or other professionals. Experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or the creation and implementation of educational programs. Additional Comments Annual Salary/Hiring Range: $50,000; Aug.
