Job Description:
Technical Service Engineer
Location: This is a Remote role based out of Commerce, MI. Candidate must be local to Michigan.
Travel: Up to 50% across North America, including Mexico

The Technical Service Engineer (TSE) position provides key technical process support and bridges the gap between application development and product development functions as well as customer needs and commercial strategies for both our automotive and non-automotive businesses. The TSE is responsible for supporting the growth and development of the MCG North American businesses by providing technical assistance and innovation to customers on part design, tooling, processing and troubleshooting resolution, and materials selection utilizing the various MCG product portfolio. Support covers a variety of processing types, including injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, and other related methods.
What You'll Do
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to automotive OEMs, Tier suppliers and other key non-automotive accounts supporting MCG product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with customers to identify material requirements and recommend suitable polymer solutions.
  • Assist in the design and validation of polymer applications for both automotive systems ( e.g., under-the-hood, interior, exterior, and electrical components) as well as consumer, BICE or medical applications.
  • Support product trials, molding evaluations, secondary operations and performance testing.
  • Analyze failure modes and propose corrective actions, design improvements or alternative materials.
  • Work closely with R&D and manufacturing teams to tailor products for specific automotive requirements and support resin approval and specification activities as required.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations, literature, datasheets, and training materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, process documentation, test results, and application notes.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Product Management to align technical solutions with business goals.
  • Provide support to ADE functions in regard to design reviews, part optimization, tool design, and mold flow analysis to ensure manufacturability and performance.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes impacting automotive polymers.
  • Champion safety standards and regulatory compliance, both internally and at customer sites.

What You Bring
Your background demonstrates both technical expertise and a passion for collaboration. You're just as comfortable on the plant floor as you are in front of a customer, translating complex material science into actionable solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (highly preferred) in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical service, application development, or product engineering within the polymer or automotive industry (required with degree).
  • In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of directly relevant experience in polymer materials, processing, or application development is required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to customer locations, technical centers, and conferences across North America
  • Working knowledge of CAD files, STEP models, mold flow, warpage, and shrinkage analysis.
  • Strong understanding of plastic part design, processing techniques ( injection molding, blow molding, extrusion ), and resin performance characteristics in order to support customer activities.
  • Customer oriented and focus. Capability in communicating position with suggestions for changes and improvements and getting others to adopt them in difficult and challenging situations.
  • Familiarity with OEM and Tier 1/2 supplier standards and specifications, with ability to support new product approval activities.
  • Facilitate proactive technical visits to customer facilities to maintain strong relationships with factory leadership.
  • Respond to customer concerns or complaints, providing technical assistance in the field or virtually to support timely resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills required for the following areas: verbal, technical writing, presenting, creating call reports, detailing/initiation of instructions and effective communication of product guidelines for use of our PPD resin portfolio.
  • Support product recommendations for new applications based on design and the end use requirements in balancing MCG capabilities with our customer needs. Also, develop expert resin knowledge to support formulation development for new products working in conjunction with the R&D teams.
  • Experience managing multi-phase customer projects from concept through commercialization; with coordination, setting priorities and time management skills to keep them on track and meet internal/external goals.

The salary range for this position is $88,000-$110,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
