Job description

Job Summary:
The Virtual School Teacher (K-5) is state-certified and serves as the instructional leader, responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction at UCP Virtual Immersive Learning Academy, a fully virtual learning environment. The teacher tailors instruction to the developmental, academic, and behavioral support needs of students, including those with disabilities and diverse learning needs, manages the online learning process, and collaborates with parents/guardians as partners in supporting student learning and engagement.
The candidate must have access to reliable high speed internet. This position is primarily remote; however, occasional in-person travel may be required for state-mandated testing, professional development, or other school-related activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum
  • Delivers rich, engaging, and standards-aligned instruction in core academic subjects using approved curriculum and digital platforms
  • Provides both synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences that promote mastery and student engagement
  • Differentiates instruction using evidence-based strategies and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to meet the needs of all learners
  • Implements evidence-based reading instruction aligned to Florida standards
  • Uses approved curriculum while supplementing instruction with additional resources and strategies, as appropriate, to meet individual student learning needs and in accordance with school policies and instructional guidance
  • Instruction is delivered in accordance with applicable state and federal laws governing virtual education

Student Support & Progress Monitoring
  • Monitors student progress using formative and summative assessments and data within the learning management system to guide instruction
  • Maintains accurate gradebooks, student records, and instructional documentation
  • Uses assessment data to personalize instruction, guide intervention, and support student mastery
  • Prepares students for required assessments and standardized testing

MTSS, PBIS, and Special Populations
  • Implements PBIS- and MTSS-aligned academic and behavioral supports
  • Provides Tier 1 instruction and collaborates with team members on Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
  • Actively participates in the development and implementation of IEPs and Section 504 Plans, including drafting goals, implementing accommodations, and documenting progress
  • Demonstrates compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, Florida statutes, and school policies

Virtual Classroom Management
  • Establishes and maintains clear routines, expectations, and procedures for virtual learning
  • Creates a structured, inclusive, and engaging online classroom culture
  • Promotes positive student behavior, attendance, and active participation

Parent/Learning Coach Communication
  • Builds and maintains positive rapport with parent, family, and/or learning coach
  • Communicates regularly regarding student progress, expectations, attendance, and interventions
  • Supports families with instructional questions and virtual learning routines in alignment with school policies

Professional Responsibilities
  • Participates in virtual staff meetings, collaborative planning, professional learning, and school events
  • Demonstrates attention to punctuality, attendance, deadlines (IEP/IFSP reviews, progress reports, assessments), and compliance requirements
  • Upholds the Florida Educators Accomplished Practices, Code of Ethics, and professional judgment standards
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Education and Training:
  • Elementary Education (Grades K-5): Bachelor's Degree or higher in Elementary or Exceptional Education; Florida Teaching Certificate (K-6) and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) required.
  • Reading and ESOL Endorsements preferred.

Minimum Experience:
  • 3+ years of blended and/or virtual teaching experience, including students with and without disabilities
  • Experience with online instruction, virtual classroom management, and student engagement
  • Working knowledge of delivering synchronous (live) and asynchronous instruction in an online environment
  • Advanced proficiency with educational technology, learning management systems, virtual platforms, and digital instructional tools
  • Experience differentiating instruction based on student mastery and diverse learning needs, including students with IEPs, 504 plans and English Learners
  • Ability and willingness to employ innovative, creative thinking to identify alternative approaches and enhance program effectiveness
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online curriculum implementation, digital assessment systems, data privacy requirements, and instructional compliance
  • Consistent ability to analyze student performance data and use it to drive instructional decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, organize instructional responsibilities, adapt to changing demands, and communicate clearly in a professional environment
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues
  • Demonstrates empathy, cultural responsiveness, professionalism, and reflective practice
