Job description

The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a National Program Management Director -Transmission to support development of electric transmission projects across the United States. This position will be part of Tetra Tech's Energy Program that builds and aligns teams to execute and scale with our most strategic clients and will report to the Energy Program's Senior Vice President.

Successful candidates will have a strong technical background and demonstrated leadership experience with electric transmission projects with utilities and developers. This strategic candidate will be responsible for developing and nurturing client relationships, responding to client opportunities, develop and work with multiple Tetra Tech environmental and engineering resources to support the project execution on all project activities across electric transmission projects and services.

This role will be involved in client business development to sell and provide a variety of environmental and engineering services that support the development, design, construction, and operation of transmission, and energy projects. Services may include but not limited to, due diligence, project feasibility, natural and cultural resource evaluation, regulatory permitting, engineering studies and design. Our ideal candidates will have existing client relationships and a proven track record of winning work within the transmission market. The ideal candidates will be able to lead by example and understand the team's responsibilities because they have performed the same tasks in a previous role.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. This position is both hybrid and remote eligible.

Your Role:

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead and grow a multi-level, multi-discipline group focused on delivering and executing complex routing/siting, planning, permitting, and compliance electric transmission projects.
  • Identify trends and work with Energy Program Leads to develop a long-term view of the transmission industry, market, and client base.
  • Lead hiring process for rapid growth of teams in support of client goals and objectives.
  • Supervise, manage, and mentor dedicated project managers, scientists, and field staff.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Tetra Tech's Health and Safety Culture and implementation.
  • Collaborate effectively with other Program Management and Operations Directors.
  • Provide leadership for project teams by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.
  • Direct and manage marketing and business development through collaboration and building intercompany relations.

Project Execution & Quality Management:

  • Set expectations on project execution, with accountability for the team delivering on program goals.
  • Serve as Senior Project Manager or Technical Advisor where you will manage technical projects, engage with clients to identify new work opportunities, prepare proposals, and cost estimates, establish, and formulate technical approaches, and direct project teams.
  • Support project managers and task leads in oversight of project teams, including on-site, field-based project staff for electric transmission and renewable or thermal generation projects.
  • Refine the programmatic approach to client delivery and execution, including standardizing Tetra Tech tools and processes across projects within the Program.
  • Personally provide subject matter expertise on major client projects at a national/regional level and ensure other appropriate SME coverage for all Program projects.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices within the Program and with other Program Directors.
  • Develop quality criteria with client and core team; implement and hold accountability for quality assurance processes to ensure consistency and scientific rigor.

Business Development:

  • Work with existing Tetra Tech client account managers and the Energy Program market leads to expand existing client accounts.
  • Develop, sustain, and grow new transmission clients.
  • Drive opportunities for contract vehicle improvements by setting and managing to client profitability goals and developing consistent approaches to budgeting/scoping.
  • Support building and developing a team of high performers of staff focused on transmission routing, siting and permitting.
  • Participate in client marketing and business development activities which consists of proposal development, technical presentations, trade show attendance, client meetings and the development of marketing materials.
  • Collaborate nationally across the Tetra Tech organization to identify and develop project teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering-related field.
  • Fifteen years of experience in environmental permitting and/or compliance, with at least ten (10) years of experience working on transmission projects.
  • Ten years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility in management, including supervising other professionals, management oversight of fieldwork and reporting, and scheduling and budgeting of projects.
  • Established credibility and positive relationships with federal and state agencies and clients.
  • Subject Matter Expert for client-related service areas.
  • Ability to lead meetings with clients and agencies.
  • Experience leading project teams, including subcontractors, and setting and adhering to project budgets and delivery schedules.
  • Advanced knowledge of pertinent current and pending federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental, natural, and cultural resources.
  • Strong knowledge of agency internal processes and procedures.
  • Proven experience with large energy development projects on public lands, natural resource issues, and/or solar, wind, energy storage, and electric transmission projects.
  • Ability to perform in a high-paced, development-oriented environment and work concurrently on multiple projects and tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and emotional intelligence, attention to detail, organization, schedule, and budget management skills.
  • Applicants must have valid driver's license and be able to meet Tetra Tech's driver requirements.
  • Ability to travel as needed up to 35% of the time.
  • Experience with Independent System Operators across the United States.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

  • Master's degree or MBA.
  • Experience with renewable energy generation projects.
  • Experience managing distributed employees and large, multi-disciplinary teams or projects.
  • Proficiency with financial metrics, forecasting, and completing/implementing business plans.
  • Experience with Tetra Tech's business lines, services, industries, and markets.

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $200K-$250K
