Job description

Job Summary:

The Engineering Director, Product Technical Lead is responsible for product engineering for cloud-based solutions for a Tax service line, including Partnership, Corporate, Indirect, and Strategic Tax Services within BDO. This role focuses on a client-centric engineering mindset to deliver high-quality and scalable solutions as the software engineering delivery leader for product development and innovation within BDO Tax.

Job Duties:

Tax Technology Business Strategy

  • Collaborates with senior tax leadership and Product Management leaders to define and execute development strategy for cloud-based tax products for a specific service line for e.g. Partnership, Corporate and Strategic Tax Services
  • Oversees the technology strategy including architecture, engineering, product design and development within a DT&I product portfolio, ensuring alignment with company goals and delivery of high-quality solutions
  • Develops and maintains standards, processes, and procedures to ensure product quality and business value

Product Team Leadership

  • Designs, builds and leads technology development teams with professionals who can excel in a cross-disciplinary environment, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and accountability
  • Drives the growth and professional development of team members, strategically determining resource and staffing needs
  • Collaborates with BDO National IT regarding governance, infrastructure and security, and with BDO Global and BDO international member firms in the creation, maintenance and deployment of global solutions

Product Development, Architecture & Engineering

  • Designs, builds, and leads cross-disciplinary technology agile development teams, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and accountability
  • Collaborates with BDO National IT regarding governance, infrastructure, and security, and with BDO Global and international member firms for global solutions deployment
  • Oversees the development of product portfolios, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards and business needs
  • Serves as the technical architect for products and platform-level solutions, designing scalable, maintainable, and secure architectures for complex systems
  • Applies customer experience and problem-solving skills to clarify requirements and validate initiatives
  • Stays abreast of emerging technology trends in AI, Cloud and Data domains and evaluate their applicability to firm goals

Risk Management

  • Ensures compliance with software development best practices, industry standards, and IT standards
  • Ensures team and product compliance with all applicable risk and security standards and policies
  • Ensures all DT&I products remain compliant with applicable service level agreements (SLAs)

Other duties as assigned 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a direct supervisor to team members, as assigned
  • Acts as a career advisor and mentor to team members, as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and Twelve (12) years of experience in the technology field, required; OR
  • Bachelor's degree, required, with a focus in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Finance, or Accounting, preferred, and ten (10) years of experience in the technology field, required

Experience:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a leadership role, managing development teams, preferred
  • Experience managing product engineering teams with Twenty (20) or more people in a global multisite setup, preferred
  • Experience delivering global scale technology solutions, preferred
  • Experience interacting with client business leaders and IT professionals, preferred
  • Experience working with a multinational remote team, preferred
  • Experience developing and launching successful enterprise and/or SAAS products in the tax or accounting industry, preferred
  • Extensive understanding of software architecture and engineering principles and patterns (e.g., microservices, serverless), preferred
  • Experience with Agile and Waterfall development methodologies, preferred
  • Experience managing projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, preferred
  • Tax experience, preferred
  • Microsoft Azure and Dynamics based product development experience, preferred
  • Artificial Intelligence technologies, including GenAI and solution design and development using AI, preferred
  • Experience in a professional services firm, preferred

License/Certifications:

  • Cloud related technical certifications like AZ-900, preferred

Software:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS GCP), AI platforms like OpenAI, Anthropic, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and database technologies (SQL, NoSQL), preferred
  • Expertise in multiple programming languages (e.g., C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python) and frameworks, preferred
  • Expertise in Azure DevOps and ServiceNow, preferred

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.


National Range:  $210,000 - $325,000
Maryland Range:  $210,000 - $325,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range:  $210,000 - $325,000
