Remote Digital Manufacturing information

What is remote digital manufacturing?

Remote digital manufacturing refers to the use of digital technologies, such as cloud computing, IoT, and advanced software, to manage and oversee manufacturing processes from a distance. This approach allows engineers, designers, and operators to monitor equipment, control production lines, and analyze data without being physically present in the factory. The goal is to increase efficiency, flexibility, and scalability in manufacturing by leveraging digital tools and connectivity. Remote digital manufacturing is particularly valuable for companies with global operations or those seeking to reduce on-site staffing requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote digital manufacturing roles?

Professionals in remote digital manufacturing often face challenges related to coordinating work across different time zones and ensuring seamless communication with on-site teams. Managing real-time data from distributed manufacturing equipment and maintaining cybersecurity for sensitive production information are also critical concerns. Additionally, adapting to new digital tools and staying updated with rapidly evolving technologies requires continuous learning and flexibility. Successful remote digital manufacturing professionals typically develop strong collaboration skills and proactively address potential workflow disruptions to keep projects on track.

About MISUMI Americas

MISUMI Americas, a division of MISUMI Group, is a leading provider of standard, configurable, and custom manufacturing solutions. By integrating a vast catalog of components with a world-class digital manufacturing platform, MISUMI Americas empowers engineers and procurement teams to accelerate innovation across the entire product lifecycle. With operations in the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago, the company serves as a vital partner for the most innovative companies in the Americas.

Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js / AWS)

Location: Oakland, CA (Remote) | Open to CA, OR, WA
Company: Fictiv

Build the Future of Manufacturing

Manufacturing is a $13 trillion industryโ€”but much of it still runs on outdated, slow, and fragmented systems. Fictiv is changing that.

Since 2013, we've been building a cloud-based, AI-powered digital manufacturing platform that helps companies go from prototype to production faster than ever. Our platform combines intelligent software with a global network of vetted manufacturing partnersโ€”powering innovation across electric vehicles, robotics, and next-gen consumer products.

We're growing fast and looking for engineers who want to solve complex, real-world problems at scale.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll help build and scale the systems that power our global manufacturing ecosystem:

  • Design and develop highly available, scalable backend services in AWS
  • Build and maintain event-driven, asynchronous systems using Node.js
  • Create robust APIs (REST / GraphQL) powering customer-facing and internal tools
  • Partner closely with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams to ship impactful features
  • Contribute to technical design discussions and drive best practices across the team
  • Debug production issues and improve system reliability
  • Continuously improve code quality through testing, observability, and documentation

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience
  • Strong skills in Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience building systems on AWS (SQS, Lambda, EC2, RDS, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architectures
  • Experience designing and maintaining REST or GraphQL APIs
  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Commitment to writing unit and integration tests
  • Knowledge of system design, caching, and security best practices (OWASP Top 10)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder)

Nice to have:

  • AWS certification
  • Experience with high-scale or business-critical systems

How You Work

  • You take ownership and deliver clean, maintainable, production-ready code
  • You communicate clearly and collaborate across teams
  • You're proactive in solving problemsโ€”even outside your immediate scope
  • You enjoy mentoring others and raising the bar for engineering excellence
  • You stay curious and continuously learn new technologies and patterns

Why Fictiv?

  • Work on real-world problems impacting global supply chains
  • Join a fast-growing company at the intersection of AI, software, and manufacturing
  • Collaborate with teams building products used by top hardware innovators
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Flexible work environment (West Coast friendly)
  • Minimal travel (0โ€“10%)

Ready to Build Something That Matters?

If you're excited about scaling systems, solving complex challenges, and shaping the future of manufacturing, we'd love to hear from you.

Salary Range:
$160,000 โ€“ $200,000 per year, depending on experience

We're actively seeking teammates who:

  • Bring diverse perspectives and experience to our culture and company.
  • Excel at being part of a strong, empathetic team.
  • Thrive in an environment emphasizing respect, honesty, collaboration, and growth.
  • Have an 'always learning' mindset that celebrates learning, not just wins.
  • Help us continue to build a world-class organization that values the contributions of all of our teammates

We encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups, including but not limited to women, members of the LGBTQ community, people of color, people with disabilities, and veterans.
