Job description

Auria is looking to hire a Chief Engineer to support projects with the US Space Force. This role is remote but with a location preference of Colorado Springs, CO.
Support of a broad range of solutions spanning from foundational cloud computing infrastructure to mission-specific software applications and software development services to include, but are not limited to: Advanced cloud-native infrastructure and services; Scalable and secure platform solutions; Agile software development methodologies and tooling; Mission-driven C2 applications; Data integration, management, and visualization capabilities; and Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML); and Cybersecurity and zero-trust architecture.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:
Software Development - Engage in the entire development lifecycle, from requirement analysis to post-production support, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Prototype Development - Develop prototypes and proofs-of-concept as assigned by program management and participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, testing, and debugging to maintain high software standards. Participate in system design and delivery decisions with understanding of space domain operations, ground enterprise architecture, and MWT mission needs.
  • Documentation and Communication - Produce essential system documentation and effectively communicate complex technical details to various stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Recommend Future Improvements - Communicate with system engineers and the software architect to proactively identify areas of improvement within software applications and recommend solutions to enhance functionality and the user experience.
  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement - Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to define and implement innovative software solutions for space and communications projects.

WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:
  • Active U.S. Government TOP SECRET security clearance (requires U.S. Citizenship) and SCI eligibility
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field.
  • 10+ years' experience of related hands-on and management of engineering on DoD/federal programs, including software development, solution delivery, or system integration projects.
  • Experience in software development, with demonstrated proficiency in C++, C#, Java / Groovy, or Python coding languages and experience with common development environments and tools such as Visual Studio, Eclipse, or IntelliJ.
  • Experience implementing security concepts into code to create and deploy security-oriented services and products.
  • Extensive experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), including using Cameo, SysML, other and industry-standard MBSE methodologies to develop and document complex system architectures and requirements.
  • At least 3+ years experience designing and implementing DOD space systems and subsystems, including systems, products, and interfaces across ground and space components.
  • Fundamental knowledge of software development best practices, methodologies, and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with source control systems (e.g., GitLab) and an understanding of branching strategies, commit conventions, and collaborative development best practices.
  • Ability to create clear and comprehensive system documentation, including design descriptions, requirements specifications, test plans, user guides, and other engineering documents.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum team using tools to assist system development, such as Jira and Confluence.

  • Holds MBSE certification, which may include SysML Object Management Group (OMG), Model Builder Fundamental (MBF), Model Builder Intermediate (MBI) or Model Builder Advance (MBA) Certification.
  • Experience performing other engineering disciplines (systems, hardware, test, configuration management, and quality engineering) and interacting with software engineering in that role.
