Job description

Job Title: Systems Admin/Cyber Security Engineer Work Model: Remote (must live in the United States) Pay rate: open to both W2 and established 1099 (no c2c) We are looking for candidates with 7-10 years of experience as a Systems Administrator with strong Linux/Windows administration, cybersecurity operations, patch management, automation, networking, and enterprise change management experience. This role is for a Mid-Level Systems Administrator/Engineer responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance, and support of enterprise IT and cybersecurity infrastructure. The position focuses on administering Linux and Windows environments, deploying and maintaining cybersecurity applications, patching systems, remediating vulnerabilities, supporting change management processes, and ensuring system stability. The engineer works closely with cyber teams, manages ticket queues, performs access reviews, responds to audits, and contributes to documentation while supporting Agile/Kanban workflows and enterprise security initiatives. We are looking for someone that can come in to take ownership of day-to-day operations. You will partner with additional teams to protect the client brand, data, and IT assets from cyber-based threats by deploying, configuring, managing, and maintaining technologies/infrastructure in support our Advanced Cyber Initiatives (ACI) and its associated programs. You will support business strategy by enabling process integration between ACI applications, as well as other target applications as needed. You will serve as technical interface to customers (analysts) for tools in the client Cyber Defense product suite, articulating technology, and product positioning to both business and technical users. Successful candidates will work independently; must be self-starting self-motivated individual, be accountable and timely in their production and status reporting and communicate effectively both in writing and when speaking to groups. You will be expected to work to build and maintain relationships within and outside of the ACI and all team members share that duty. This position will require a high level of attention to detail to the work performed on maintenance/deployments, following process, and updating/creating associated team/tool documentation. Responsibilities include but not limited to: -Support client in the maintenance of IT and IT Security tools and systems -Work with existing ACI team to deploy and maintain systems -General system admin -Renewing and updating TLS certificates, managing KEX/MACS/CIPHER’s on servers -Responding to audit and enterprise hardening requests -Updating of Subtasks, stories, and epic’s for work in flight -Troubleshooting Linux OS and apps or troubleshooting Windows OS and apps -On call and after hours support -Deploying and maintaining COTS Cybersecurity, On prem, SaaS, and IaaS related applications and appliances -Remediate vulnerabilities on Windows and/or Linux systems, ensure the stability and sustainability of supported platforms by monitoring, maintaining, patching, and administering all aspects of those systems -Contribute to and maintain internal engineering documentation (e.g., tool documentation, lessons learned, procedures, status updates, etc.) -Update/speak in Daily Operations briefings -Daily ticket queue monitoring, for incidents and work ingestion and assigning as required -Responsible for quarterly access reviews -Biweekly patch validation Required experience: -5+ years of working in a large enterprise with a change management focused environment -5+ years minimum experience as a System Admin, or similar role required -5+ years of cybersecurity engineering related or similar role required (understanding of enterprise best practices for security and hardening with a focus on PCI-DSS/NCUA ideal) -Experience working in environments with infrastructure management processes such as change management, problem management, configuration management and project management -Hands on experience in Agile specifically Kanban workflow. -Experience working in an enterprise environment -Strong understanding and ability to troubleshoot various common Linux operating systems (Centos, Red hat, Ubuntu, and/or Cisco derivative OS’s) OR strong understanding and ability to troubleshoot various Windows server operating systems -Experience patching and upgrading Linux and Windows based operating systems, packages, and applications -Familiarization with cybersecurity principles as they apply to hardening enterprise based systems. -Basic scripting Ansible, Python, Bash, PowerShell, Ruby, etc to automate routine tasks -Experience using/integrating SIEM technology -Experience with large enterprise processes and working a silo’d environment where tickets/coordination/detailed change management and control processes are required -Knowledge of core network, firewall, routing, switching, load balancing, and proxy principles and troubleshooting related issues from a server deployment/maintenance perspective Desired experience: -Ansible -Experience Managing: -Linux based Java/Tomcat COTS web applications in a clustered environment -Windows .net based IIS COTS applications in a clustered environment -Physical or Virtual appliances with limited Linux based OS CLI interfaces -Ability to read/understand a packet capture. -Using Jira/Confluence
