What is a Remote DAX Developer?

A Remote DAX Developer is a professional who specializes in creating and optimizing Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) formulas, primarily for Microsoft Power BI, Analysis Services, and Power Pivot. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams to design data models, develop calculated columns and measures, and enhance business intelligence solutions. Their expertise helps organizations transform raw data into actionable insights, all while working from a location outside the traditional office. Remote DAX Developers often use communication and project management tools to stay connected with clients and colleagues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote DAX Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote DAX Developer, you need strong expertise in Data Analysis Expressions (DAX), data modeling, and proficiency with Power BI or similar BI tools, often supported by a background in computer science or data analytics. Familiarity with SQL, Power Query, and Microsoft Azure, along with relevant certifications like Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, is typically expected. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure the accurate development of business intelligence solutions, clear stakeholder collaboration, and successful project delivery in a remote environment.

What are some typical challenges faced by a Remote DAX Developer, and how can they be addressed?

Remote DAX Developers often encounter challenges such as communicating complex data logic to non-technical stakeholders and ensuring data accuracy across distributed teams. Working remotely can make it harder to quickly clarify requirements or troubleshoot issues collaboratively, so regular check-ins and clear documentation are essential. Utilizing collaborative tools like shared dashboards, version control, and scheduled virtual meetings can help maintain alignment and data integrity. Emphasizing proactive communication and maintaining a well-documented workflow are key strategies for success in this remote role.

We invite you to explore the position below and to submit your application to join our team!

The firm is continuing its evolution into a data-driven decision organization, building on a strong foundation of enterprise reporting, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Fabric. The Microsoft Fabric Technical Architect oversees the technical architecture, platform design, and implementation quality of the firm's data platform, and is responsible for defining how data solutions are developed, ensuring architectural integrity across workloads, and serving as the primary technical authority for the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem. The Fabric Technical Architect partners closely with the Data Strategy Program Manager, data engineers, project managers, business stakeholders, and vendors to translate strategic data objectives into well-architected, scalable, and well-governed technical solutions.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Serve as the primary technical authority for the firm's Microsoft Fabric platform, owning architectural decisions, platform standards, and implementation patterns across all data workloads.

    • Design and implement end-to-end data solutions within Microsoft Fabric, including ingestion, transformation, semantic modeling, orchestration, and reporting layers.

    • Define and uphold architectural standards aligned with modern data patterns such as Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold), Data Vault, and related methodologies.

    • Architect and implement scalable data transformation workflows using PySpark and SQL, with an emphasis on performance, maintainability, and reuse.

    • Design and optimize orchestration pipelines using Azure Data Factory and/or Fabric Pipelines, including parameterized and modular pipeline designs.

    • Establish and lead CI/CD practices for data workloads, including automated deployments, environment promotion strategies, and integration with Azure DevOps or GitHub.

    • Lead capacity planning and workload optimization efforts across the Fabric platform, ensuring efficient computer utilization and cost control.

    • Architect and guide the enterprise implementation of Copilot in Fabric, including capacity architecture, workload separation, and evaluation of trade-offs and best practices.

    • Develop and maintain semantic layer assets, including semantic models, Power BI report structures, and DAX measures, ensuring consistency and reusability across the firm.

    • Collaborate with the Data Strategy Program Manager to ensure the technical architecture supports roadmap priorities, data governance requirements, and desired business outcomes.

    • Provide technical leadership and hands-on support to data engineers and implementation teams, establishing coding standards, review practices, and reusable frameworks.

    • Partner with Information Governance and Security teams to implement data security, access controls, auditing, and compliance requirements within the Fabric ecosystem.

    • Evaluate and integrate supporting tools such as Microsoft Purview for data cataloging, lineage tracking, and governance enforcement.

    • Work directly with vendors and Microsoft partners to assess platform capabilities, align implementation approaches, and ensure high-quality delivery.

    • Maintain a high level of confidentiality of all firm and client information.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of modern data architecture patterns, including Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), Data Vault, and dimensional modeling.

    • Knowledge of semantic layer development, including Power BI report design and DAX calculations.

    • Knowledge of Copilot in Fabric, including recommended capacity architecture, implementation considerations, and trade-off analysis.

    • Knowledge of data security, governance, lineage, and compliance within the Microsoft data ecosystem.

    • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, well-documented technical architecture.

    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present architectural decisions and trade-offs to both technical teams and business stakeholders.

    • Demonstrated ownership mindset, with the ability to lead technical delivery and independently drive results.

    • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities; able to identify issues, craft practical solutions, and resolve conflicts with sound business judgment.

    • Ability to balance multiple priorities, remain composed under pressure, and adapt to shifting demands.

    • Strong commitment to client service, ethical conduct, and firm values.

    • Demonstrated ability to self-manage and work independently in a remote, hybrid, and in-office settings.

    • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team to promote consistent and efficient workflow processes.

    • Strong organizational and prioritizing skills to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

    Required Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

    Certification(s):

    • Microsoft Fabric certifications (DP-600, DP-700) are strongly preferred.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in data engineering or data platforms.

    • Minimum four (4) years of experience architecting and implementing solutions on Microsoft Fabric and/or its predecessor technologies (Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Machine Learning).
