About the Data Engineer III, Snowflake position:

Within the Applied Intelligence department, the Data Engineer III will use various methods to transform structured and unstructured data into useful data systems; preparing data and the Snowflake environment for AI, agents, modeling; and constructing and maintaining the structures used for data-driven, AI and agentic analyses. The Data Engineer will also be responsible managing the Snowflake assets, including usage and spend, and striving for efficiencies by aligning the environment with business goals. This position entails ensuring the analysts, AI developers and business owners have valid and reliable data and Snowflake instances available for internal and external clients and a variety of applications and AI agents.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel will be required to Avalon’s corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

Data Engineer III, Snowflake – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate data for completeness, reliability, veracity, published standards, and agreement-upon specifications coming to Avalon from outside sources such as partners and clients
  • Ingest lab and medical claims and lab results into Snowflake databases for analysis
  • Administer Snowflake roles and features and assist in design and functional releases including CI/CD, Terraform, Harness, Sumo Logic and related tools
  • Design and evaluate new features and incorporate updates from Snowflake into enterprise environments
  • Extract and ingest structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data into Snowflake and the data lake/AWS Iceberg
  • Manage Snowflake environments for advanced analytics, AI, and data science using tools such as Snowpark, SnowSight, OpenFlow, and Cortex
  • Build and manage pipelines that move data, code, and AI tools through development and production environments
  • Assist in developing pilots, production releases, and CI/CD using SQL, Python, AWS Glue, Terraform, Harness, Airflow, Tableau, and Streamlit
  • Collaborate with team members across multiple concurrent projects
  • Employ strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

Data Engineer III, Snowflake – Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience
  • Strong Snowflake experience in engineering, administration, security, and environment design
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and Snowflake data management best practices
  • Experience with data lakes and medallion data warehousing
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Familiarity with cloud service offerings such as AWS

Data Engineer III, Snowflake – Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare experience including pharmacy, managed care, health plans, hospitals, or pharmaceutical environments
