Job description

Here at Scotts Miracle-Gro there is no such thing as a typical day. Our culture is constantly energized by new and exciting growth opportunities and at a rapid pace. Below are details on an open job. If the role interests you and you would like to be considered we encourage you to apply!

At Scotts Miracle-Gro, marketing doesn't stop at the ad-it wins the sale at the shelf and the click on the screen. We're the brand people trust to grow everything from backyard gardens to big ideas, and we're looking for an analytically-driven, customer-obsessed leader to ensure our powerful brand narratives convert into market share across major retailers. Here, you won't just manage programs-you'll architect the commercial strategy. You'll dig into syndicated data, understand shopper behavior, and collaborate with Sales to execute campaigns that are both disruptive and profitable. That's the balance: big-picture brand alignment meets roll-up-your-sleeves, profitable execution.

Why This Role is Special

This isn't just another director role-it's the chance to lead the commercial translation of our iconic brands (Scotts, Miracle-Gro, Ortho, etc.) at the crucial point of purchase, whether that's a home center, mass merchant, club store, or the digital shelf. You are the definitive link between Brand Marketing's creative vision and the Sales team's execution strategy.

You'll be the Commercial Heartbeat, partnering with Brand Marketing, Sales, and Finance to develop and fund programs that drive traffic, increase basket size, and generate profitable volume. You'll ensure every channel has a tailored, winning strategy, guaranteeing that the right product, at the right price, with the right support, is presented to the right shopper at the exact moment of decision.

What You'll Do

  • Architect Commercial Strategy: Develop and lead the end-to-end Customer and Channel Marketing strategy for key business units, aligning national brand campaigns with retailer-specific execution plans across all channels (Mass, Home Center, E-commerce, Club, etc.).

  • Translate Insights to Action: Leverage shopper insights, POS data, and retailer-specific analytics to uncover growth opportunities and design compelling, insight-led Shopper Marketing and merchandising programs.

  • Lead the Go-to-Market: Oversee the commercialization of all new products, developing retailer-specific selling stories, in-store and online merchandising recommendations, and essential sales materials.

  • Build Winning Partnerships: Act as the strategic partner to the Sales and shopper marketing teams, equipping them with customized channel toolkits, presentations, and resources necessary to secure placement and promotional support with our biggest customers.

  • Measure and Optimize: Continuously monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of all channel programs, using data to inform future spending and strategy adjustments, fostering a culture of rigorous commercial accountability.

  • Elevate Channel Capabilities: Inspire and mentor a team (if applicable) to be analytical, results-oriented, and channel-fluent experts, driving best-in-class execution across the organization.

What We're Looking For
  • A Commercial Powerhouse with 8+ years of progressive CPG experience in Trade Marketing, Customer Marketing, Shopper Marketing, or Channel Marketing.

  • Someone who possesses a deep, nuanced understanding of the CPG retail landscape and how to win across omni-channel environments (brick-and-mortar and e-commerce/retail media).

  • A Financial Strategist who is fluent in P&L management, Revenue Growth Management (RGM) principles, and can translate complex financial and market data into clear commercial decisions.

  • An Analytical Leader highly proficient in using syndicated data (Nielsen/IRI/Circana) and internal systems to diagnose business performance and identify actionable growth levers.

  • A proven Cross-Functional Partner adept at influencing senior Sales and Marketing leaders and bridging internal priorities with external customer needs.

  • A human who actually loves plants, gardens, and green spaces-and understands that selling the product requires nurturing a relationship with the customer at every point of sale.

The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $175,700.00 - $206,700.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. In addition to the determined base salary, this role is also incentive eligible under our corporate bonus programs. For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.

Here at ScottsMiracle-Gro, we believe providing an enriching and engaging employee experience is what sets us apart from other organizations. We recognize our employees are so much more than just their job title so we offer programs and benefits that support them in all aspects of their lives. Wondering how we do it? Below is a glimpse of our highlight reel...

  • Our Live Total Health program provides you with options to align to your personal needs. Selections range from medical, dental and vision coverage for you, your spouse/domestic partner and dependents to an outstanding wellness reimbursement program to an unbelievable 401K match (up to 7.5%) as well as a 15% discount on company stock and much more

  • We know our talent is our most precious asset and your unique development contributes to our organization's success now and in the future. Career growth at our company is not always a ladder. It's much more like a rock climbing adventure. Grow through exploration and experiences rather than a predictable linear path.

  • We value the importance of family. We provide access to Maven Family Planning and up to $30,000 to accommodate for adoption, fertility and surrogacy.

  • Be part of something bigger by joining one of our Employee Resource Groups focusing on diversity and inclusion, family, education and sustainability: Scotts Women's Network, Scotts Black Employees' Network, Scotts Veterans Network, Scotts Young Professionals, Scotts Pride Network (GroPride), Scotts Associates for a Greener Earth (SAGE), Scotts Family TREE and our Associate Boards.
