Data Protection Specialist 

Position Summary: The Data Protection Specialist will focus on providing analysis and engineering support for the Data Protection Office. This includes primary responsibility of triaging Data Discovery events, DLP events, supporting data discovery efforts, gathering unique business sensitive data patterns, and implementing detection rules/policies for Auto Data Classification/DLP/File Level Encryption. The position will also serve as a backup to the Data Protection Lead. 

This is a 6 month contract-to-hire position, eligible for remote work in the United States. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Provide engineering support for Data Discovery, DLP, and Data Classification systems which include implementing detection rules, reducing false positive detections, deploying and maintaining tools. 

  • Analyze Data Discovery, DLP, and Data Classification events and formulate metrics to indicate areas of concern. 

  • Coordinate with business units to gather business requirements such as unique sensitive data patterns, whitelist of authorized entities, and establish controls with least business impacts.  

  • Building reports/automations to address key business concerns on data protection issues 

  • Assist in addressing Data Protection control audits. 

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: 

  • Varonis SaaS engineering and analysis experience is a must 

  • Microsoft Purview, Netskope or other DLP engineering and analysis experience  

  • Microsoft Purview Information Protection engineering and analysis experience  

  • Familiar with Keyword, Regex, Exact Data Matching (EDM) methodology for policy development 

  • Power BI/Tableau experience is a plus 

  • Business Relationship Management experience  

  • General knowledge of NIST, ISO 27001, CIS standards 

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred 

  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in Data Security and/or Data Governance
