What is a remote data protection?

A Remote Data Protection job involves securing and managing sensitive digital information for organizations while working remotely. Professionals in this role work with cybersecurity tools to prevent data breaches and unauthorized access. Strong knowledge of data security frameworks and cloud protection strategies is often required.

To thrive in Remote Data Protection, you need a solid understanding of data privacy laws, risk management, and cybersecurity principles, typically supported by a degree in computer science, information security, or a related field. Familiarity with security frameworks, encryption tools, DLP (Data Loss Prevention) solutions, and certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or GDPR compliance are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective remote communication are essential soft skills for this role. Mastering these competencies ensures sensitive information remains secure and regulatory requirements are met in a distributed environment.

What are some typical challenges faced in a remote data protection role?

Professionals in Remote Data Protection often encounter challenges related to securing a distributed workforce, ensuring compliance with varied international regulations, and quickly addressing emerging security threats. Working remotely can mean managing security for diverse endpoints and collaborating across different time zones or teams. Job description

About Turing:
Based in San Francisco, California, Turing is the world’s leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing supports customers in two ways: first, by accelerating frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, plus top AI researchers who specialize in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents; and second, by applying that expertise to help enterprises transform AI from proof of concept into proprietary intelligence with systems that perform reliably, deliver measurable impact, and drive lasting results on the P&L.

Role Overview:
Turing invites Privacy and Data Protection Law experts to join projects that fine-tune AI models like ChatGPT. You will apply your expertise in CCPA/CPRA compliance, state privacy frameworks, data breach response, and cross-border data transfers to evaluate how AI reasons about privacy law. If you enjoy analyzing consent frameworks, vendor data processing agreements, and FTC enforcement actions, this is your opportunity. No prior AI experience is required — your background in U.S. privacy law is exactly what’s needed.

What Does Day-to-Day Look Like:
  • Review and evaluate AI-generated responses to U.S. privacy law hypotheticals, including CCPA/CPRA consumer rights, state data breach notification requirements, COPPA compliance, and FTC Section 5 enforcement.
  • Apply a structured legal rubric to assess issue spotting, accuracy of privacy statutes, and proper application of state privacy frameworks (Virginia CDPA, Colorado CPA, Connecticut CTDPA) and federal sectoral laws.
  • Identify gaps in AI reasoning around data minimization, consumer opt-out rights, vendor management, cross-border transfer mechanisms, and biometric privacy laws (BIPA).
  • Provide detailed, high-quality annotations and written feedback to refine AI models.
  • Collaborate with researchers and project managers to align evaluation standards and project goals.

Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school; Bar admission (active/inactive).
  • 3+ years of U.S. legal practice in privacy law, data protection, cybersecurity law, or technology transactions.
  • Strong reasoning skills across CCPA/CPRA, state privacy laws, COPPA, HIPAA (privacy provisions), and FTC enforcement frameworks.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • High ethical standards; interest in AI is a plus.

Perks of Freelancing with Turing:
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI projects with leading LLM companies.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Flexible, fully remote work arrangement.
  • Learn how to use AI to advance the legal field.

Offer Details:
  • Commitment: Flexible, 10–30 hrs/week.
  • Duration: ~1 month, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs.
