Job description

Summary:

The MediaNews Group is looking for a Billing Specialist II to join our team! This position is responsible for billing processes for all properties (newspapers) owned by the company. This includes, but is not limited to: rating, billing, custom contracts, special pricing, contract entry, and adjustments.

Please note that while this is a remote role, candidates must reside in CO or OH.

What you will do:

  • Generate advertising billing files for assigned properties, ensuring accuracy of data prior to submission

  • Perform month-end processing

  • Serve as the subject matter expert in ad rating (Mactive system)

  • Manage "wrong rate" and "rating error" queues in Mactive, releasing ads to print

  • Review the accuracy of contracts and rates entered by SSC as part of the internal audit process

  • Act as the key contact for local advertising departments regarding billing issues

  • Transmit statement files to Shoom for eInvoicing

  • Research and troubleshoot complex billing discrepancies or internal inquiries

  • Coordinate system testing, software upgrades, and subsequent data entry training for new team members

  • Assist with unapplied payments and financial adjustments

  • Support departmental cleanup projects, standardization tasks, and documentation audits

What you will bring:

  • Knowledge of accounting processes and operational controls

  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, correspondence, and financial documents

  • Experience writing and organizing professional correspondence (primarily via email)

  • Proven proficiency in creating Excel spreadsheets using formulas

  • Strong problem-solving skills to handle practical variables in situations with limited standardization

  • Minimum education of an Associate's degree; a Bachelor's degree in business is highly preferred

  • Technical expertise with PC tools, specifically the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Familiarity with automated billing systems, ideally Mactive and/or PBS

  • Prior background consisting of 3 to 6 years of billing or business experience

  • Accurate 10-key data entry skills

Benefits and Compensation:

The hourly wage is $21.00 - $21.50.
