Job description

Title: Data Center Technician
Job type: Contract
Location- Remote

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Remote Data Center Installation Technician / Project coordinator with strong hands-on knowledge of data center infrastructure, network installation, fiber connectivity, rack-and-stack activities, and troubleshooting. The successful candidate will provide remote technical support, project coordination, and field-team leadership for data center installation projects.

Key Responsibilities:
Remote Technical Support & Field Team Leadership:
  • Provide remote technical guidance and support to field technicians performing data center installation activities.
  • Lead and coordinate technicians during installation, migration, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.
  • Review work requirements, project documentation, floor plans, EDPs, DPKs, MOPs, and customer instructions before work begins.
  • Provide technicians with clear installation and troubleshooting instructions and resolve technical questions remotely.
  • Support multiple projects and field teams remotely as required.
Data Center Infrastructure:
  • Support installation of server racks according to floor plans and ensure proper grounding.
  • Deploy Primary and Secondary PDU units for AC cage infrastructure.
  • Support installation of DC power supplies, fuse panels, and associated DC infrastructure.
  • Guide rack-and-stack installation of servers, switches, routers, and other network equipment.
  • Support installation of OEM switches ranging from 1RU equipment to large chassis-based systems and line cards.
  • Ensure proper equipment placement, cabling, labeling, and rack configuration.
Network & Fiber Installation:
  • Support network installations in accordance with customer-specific standards.
  • Install and troubleshoot Fiber Patch Panels, ODFs, interconnect fibers, and permanent fiber links.
  • Support installation of LC, SC, MPO, and other optical fiber connections.
  • Support UTP, RJ-45 console, management, straight-through, and rollover cabling.
  • Troubleshoot fiber connectivity, polarity, patching, and endpoint issues.
Network Equipment & Commissioning:
  • Support commissioning of console and management switches.
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of servers, switches, routers, and other OEM equipment.
  • Support loading of base configurations and ISO files onto Windows and Linux servers.
  • Provide remote troubleshooting guidance using CLI and GUI interfaces
  • Provide technical support for traditional 3-tier and 2-tier Spine-Leaf network architectures.

Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in data center installation, network installation, or data center infrastructure.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of server racks, PDUs, DC power systems, fuse panels, servers, switches, and routers.
  • Experience with rack-and-stack operations and installation of OEM network equipment.
  • Strong understanding of fiber infrastructure, ODFs, patch panels, optical connectivity, and structured cabling.
  • Experience with LC, SC, MPO, and UTP cabling.
  • Knowledge of fiber testing using OTDR and fiber inspection/cleaning equipment.
  • Familiarity with Telcordia standards and data center installation practices.
  • Ability to interpret and work from EDP, DPK, floor plans, port maps, MOPs, and other customer documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, network connectivity, fiber, and cabling issues.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux server environments and basic CLI/GUI configuration.
  • Understanding of 3-tier and Spine-Leaf network architectures.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide clear technical direction to remote field technicians.
  • Ability to manage priorities and support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Relevant certifications in networking, fiber optics, data center infrastructure, or related fields are a plus.

Preferred Experience:
  • Proven experience leading data center installation projects from planning through final delivery.
  • Previous experience providing remote technical support to onsite installation teams.
  • Experience coordinating multiple technicians across large-scale data center deployments.
  • Experience working with major hyperscale customers and their site-specific installation standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot technical issues and drive projects to completion.
