Summary:
Are you passionate about using data to improve patient care, medication safety, and pharmacy operations? Rush University Medical Center is seeking a Medication and Pharmacy Data Analytics Specialist to help transform complex healthcare data into actionable insights that drive clinical, operational, and strategic decision-making across our growing pharmacy enterprise. 

In this highly collaborative role, you will serve as a key partner between Pharmacy Operations, Pharmacy Informatics, Knowledge Management, and Information Technology teams, leveraging data to optimize medication-use processes, improve clinical workflows, and support enterprise-wide pharmacy initiatives. You will design and develop analytics solutions, build and maintain data integrations, create dashboards and reports, and uncover meaningful trends that help improve patient outcomes and operational performance. 

This position is ideal for a data professional who enjoys solving complex problems, working directly with stakeholders, and translating data into compelling stories and actionable recommendations. You'll have the opportunity to work with leading healthcare technologies, electronic health records, pharmacy systems, and advanced analytics tools while helping shape the future of pharmacy services at a nationally recognized academic health system.

Responsibilities:
Collaborative Problem Solving

  • Produces deliverables for leadership and communicates with all levels of stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to implement and refine workflows that incorporate pharmaceutical data.

Pharmacy Informatics

  • Continuous improvement of pharmacy-related IT systems, including medication dispensing software, inventory management tools, and automated dispensing technologies.
  • Leverage data to improve medication safety, reduce errors, and enhance clinical decision-making.

Data Management and Integration

  • Gather business and data requirements from stakeholders.
  • Captures, develops, and documents data definitions, business rules, and data quality requirements.
  • Design and maintain databases that store pharmaceutical, clinical, and operational data (e.g., medication records, patient outcomes, drug interactions).
  • Integrate data from various sources such as electronic health records (EHRs), pharmacy management systems, and clinical decision support tools to optimize and automate decision making.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Conducts data analysis in support of a variety of analytic solutions.
  • Create and produce forecasts, reports, ad hoc requests, dashboards, etc.
  • Interprets data, analyzes results, create visualizations, and provides insights to determine operational impact, trends, and opportunities to communicate insights to pharmacists, clinicians, and leadership.
  • Produces reports and analytics that facilitate evidence-based clinical, financial, and operational decisions.

Systems Development and Automation

  • Identifies and defines both process and data improvements.
  • Build and maintain systems to process, integrate, and transform data into robust analytics.
  • Create algorithms or models to predict medication utilization.
  • Work with software developers to integrate data solutions into existing healthcare platforms.

Stakeholder, Regulatory and Clinical Support

  • Ensures compliance with deliverable reporting requirements by performing quality data audits and analysis.
  • Ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance with regulations.
  • Provide expertise on drug-related data to support clinical trials, population health management, or precision medicine initiatives.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science or related field.
  • Experience: 3 years of data analysis, query design, and reporting experience.
  • Experience with test reporting solutions in house reporting solutions, i.e. Tableau, MS SQL Server and Oracle.
  • Experience with reports, dashboards, scorecards using Microsoft SSRS, SSAS, and MDX in a data warehousing environment.
  • Strong analytical, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements gathering and using relational databases.
  • Ability to perform detailed data analysis (i.e. determine the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples).
  • Good visual aesthetic sense relative to report development and presentation to the user.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, and customer facing skills
  • Must have a strong customer service orientation and excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Experience: Demonstrated pharmacy experience; Proven experience with data engineering tools and healthcare IT systems (e.g., EHRs like Epic or Cerner).
  • Specialized certification(s): Epic Revenue Data Model, Epic Clinical Data Model Certification, Epic Clarity Data Model Certification, Epic Caboodle (Data Warehouse) Data Model Certification, Epic Cogito Certification, Epic Willow Ambulatory Certification, Epic Willow Inpatient Certification.
  • Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, T-SQL; PL/SQL.
  • Familiarity with ERP information systems.
  • Familiarity with EMR information systems.
