Remote Dashboard Developer information

What is a remote dashboard developer?

Remote dashboard developers are professionals who design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards that visualize data and key metrics for organizations, all while working from a remote location. They use tools like Tableau, Power BI, or custom web technologies to create user-friendly interfaces that help businesses monitor performance and inform decision-making. These developers typically collaborate with stakeholders virtually to gather requirements, ensure data accuracy, and deliver actionable insights.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote dashboard developer?

To thrive as a Remote Dashboard Developer, you need strong programming skills in languages like JavaScript or Python, experience with data visualization, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with dashboard tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker, as well as APIs and database systems, is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills set top candidates apart. These competencies ensure the delivery of accurate, actionable dashboards that support data-driven decision-making in a distributed work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote dashboard developers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Dashboard Developers often encounter challenges such as clearly understanding stakeholder requirements, managing asynchronous communication, and ensuring data accuracy across distributed systems. To overcome these, it's helpful to establish regular check-ins with team members, use collaborative project management tools, and maintain thorough documentation. Additionally, proactively seeking feedback and clarifying expectations can help ensure that dashboards meet user needs and deliver actionable insights.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior BI Engineer based in Netherlands.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping how an organisation turns data into trusted, actionable business insights.
You will design and evolve business intelligence solutions that make complex information accessible to stakeholders across the organisation.
The role combines hands-on technical work with close collaboration across business and data teams.
You will build semantic models, define meaningful KPIs, and create intuitive dashboards that support better decision-making.
You will also help establish consistent reporting standards and promote self-service analytics across the business.
Working in a remote-first environment, you will have significant ownership over the evolution of the BI and analytics landscape.
Your work will directly contribute to a stronger data culture, improved visibility, and more informed business performance.

Accountabilities
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into scalable analytical solutions.
  • Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports using Metabase or comparable BI platforms.
  • Define, document, and maintain business metrics, KPIs, reporting standards, and shared business definitions.
  • Develop and optimise advanced SQL queries for reporting and analytical use cases.
  • Design semantic data models and reporting datasets that enable reliable self-service analytics.
  • Validate data accuracy and consistency across dashboards, reports, and analytical datasets.
  • Investigate data discrepancies and collaborate with Data Engineers to identify root causes and drive issues through resolution.
  • Analyse business performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Establish and promote best practices in business intelligence, reporting, and data visualisation.
  • Maintain clear documentation covering dashboards, metrics, business definitions, and reporting processes.
  • Support stakeholder adoption of BI solutions and encourage data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting capabilities, data accessibility, and the overall analytics platform.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics Engineering, Data Analytics, or a closely related field.
  • Advanced SQL skills and proven experience working with large analytical datasets.
  • Strong hands-on experience building dashboards and reports with Metabase or a similar business intelligence platform.
  • Experience working with Amazon Redshift and relational database environments.
  • Solid understanding of dimensional data modelling and semantic layer design.
  • Experience defining business metrics, KPIs, reporting frameworks, and organisation-wide data standards.
  • Ability to independently investigate complex business and data issues and take them through to resolution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to translate data into meaningful business recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A proactive, ownership-driven mindset and a strong sense of accountability.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote-first and collaborative environment.
Benefits
  • Fully remote, remote-first working environment.
  • Competitive salary with individual performance-based bonuses paid quarterly.
  • 28 days of paid annual leave.
  • Core working hours from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in your local time zone, with flexibility outside those hours.
  • Referral bonuses and additional flash bonuses.
  • High-quality equipment to support effective remote work.
  • Annual company retreats offering opportunities for networking, collaboration, and team building.
  • Opportunity to work on impactful BI and analytics initiatives with significant ownership.
  • A role focused on improving data accessibility and strengthening data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
