To thrive as a Remote Creative, you need a strong portfolio showcasing design, writing, or multimedia skills, along with relevant education or experience in your creative field. Familiarity with industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Suite, collaboration tools such as Slack or Trello, and sometimes certifications in digital design or content creation are highly valued. Exceptional communication, time management, and self-motivation are standout soft skills for succeeding independently and within virtual teams. These abilities are crucial for producing high-quality creative work, meeting deadlines, and maintaining effective collaboration despite physical distance.

How do Remote Creatives typically collaborate with team members despite working from different locations?

Remote Creatives commonly collaborate using a variety of digital tools such as project management platforms, shared cloud drives, and video conferencing software. Job description

The Community You Will Join

The Creative Director, Social & Content will report to the Director, Social Creative and work PST hours. This leader will oversee multiple Airbnb social workstreams while shaping a cohesive, culturally relevant content ecosystem that blends brand storytelling with social-first execution.

Airbnb is seeking a visionary creative leader who operates at the intersection of content, culture, and brand. This role is part of our internal, multidisciplinary Creative Team-partnering across marketing, product, comms, and external creators to develop ideas that travel across platforms and live beyond campaigns.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has built social-native content systems-not just campaigns-and understands how to create work that audiences choose to watch, follow, and share.

The Difference You Will Make

Our ideal candidate has led the development of highly engaging, platform-native content for global audiences-especially within YouTube and other video-first ecosystems-and understands how to build repeatable formats, series, and franchises that grow audiences over time.

They bring a strong point of view on how brand and content coexist, and know how to move fluidly between:

  • Editorial and entertainment-driven storytelling
  • Brand-building and business objectives
  • Reactive, cultural moments and long-term content strategy

This person is deeply fluent in social platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.), but more importantly understands how audiences behave differently across them-and how to create for those behaviors, not just distribute to them.

They will partner closely with Brand, Marketing, and Insights teams to translate strategy into work that is both creatively ambitious and culturally resonant, with a track record of ideas that drive conversation, sharing, and earned attention.

A Typical Day
  • Lead creative across multiple social and content workstreams, ensuring output is distinctive, culturally relevant, and aligned with Airbnb's brand vision
  • Develop and guide content formats, series, and repeatable franchises, not just one-off campaigns
  • Be hands-on in concepting and storytelling, while also setting a clear creative vision for teams and partners
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external creators, and production partners to bring ideas to life at scale
  • Build strong relationships across Brand, Marketing, Comms, and Product to ensure cohesion across all touchpoints
  • Partner with Creative Operations and Production to scale output efficiently without compromising quality
  • Mentor and grow a team of multidisciplinary creatives, fostering a culture of curiosity, craft, and experimentation
Your Expertise
  • 12+ years of creative leadership experience across social, content, and brand storytelling
  • Proven success developing YouTube-first or video-led content, including series, channels, or recurring formats that have built and retained audiences
  • Experience operating in environments where editorial, entertainment, and brand intersect
  • Strong understanding of platform mechanics, especially video platforms (YouTube, TikTok), and how content succeeds within them
  • Experience collaborating with creators, influencers, and talent-not just directing campaigns, but co-creating content
  • Ability to translate insights, data, and strategy into compelling creative work that people actively engage with
  • Experience leading both internal teams and external partners (agencies, production companies, creators)
  • Strong storytelling instincts, with a high bar for craft across video, design, and narrative
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • A deep curiosity about culture, media, and how audiences engage with content today
