Description
Position Title: Capacity Action Team South Atlantic-Gulf Region (SER) Facility Management and Project Specialist Assistant
Conservation Legacy Program: Stewards Individual Placements
Site Location: Fully remote. Preferred (but not required) to be within Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee. Some position related travel required.
Terms of Service:
  • Start Date: August 2026
  • Duration: 50 Weeks
  • Payrate: $25/hour, 40 hours per week

Purpose:
Stewards Individual Placements (STE) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
This position will work directly with the SER Facility Support Division and focuses on supporting projects, communications, and operational tasks related to facility repair and maintenance, disaster recovery, and special programs.
Position Administrative Parameters:
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day. Core hours 10-4 Eastern.
  • Site supervisor Check-In: weekly scheduled one-hour check in meetings to update on projects, address issues, answer questions, task out
  • Duty Station: Fully remote.

  • Travel: occasional travel TBD

Position Responsibilities and Tasks will include:
Program Administration (65%) Promote and support facility management initiatives and help execute project goals.
  • Provide Park support for project development and execution.
  • Provide assistance with the tracking of project information such as funding, completion reports, project and partner contacts, annual program trends.
  • Assists with program planning such as cost modeling, scheduling, advertisement, training, execution, and evaluation.
  • Provide assistance with administrative functions related to fund management.
  • Research and recommend program adjustments and improvements based on internal program data and external industry/organization standards and activities.
  • Use problem solving and creative thinking skills to recommend ideas for continual improvement and development of existing programs.
  • Assist with program communications and record keeping (e.g., attend meetings, take notes, keep webpages updated, respond to external correspondence, etc.)

Communications (25%): Communicate facility management mission goals and objectives through programmatic and partner correspondences and reports.
  • Assist with communication and media strategy including press releases, communication with youth corps, coordination with NPS communications, etc.
  • Provide communication support for parks and projects to highlight project execution
  • Compile information to assist with the creation of reports for project supervisors
  • Receive mentorship in the coordination of collaborative replies to correspondences and reports. This will include relaying instructions to staff, collecting information, preparing replies, and consolidating/coordinating submittal of information.
  • Assist in the creation of additional communication products as necessary.
  • Conducts communication by supporting social media outreach, internal and external websites, and coordinating activities including preparing and presenting.

Training/Professional Development (10%) of the position will be focused solely on individual professional development (training, skill development, working with other NPS departments in individual's interests, etc.)
Qualifications:
  • Make a full-time, 50-week commitment
  • Willing to plan occasional travel to important events and potential site visits.
  • Serve with varied groups of people and manage conflicts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Submit proof of a Driver's License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection.
  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
  • Applicants must be between ages of 18-30 years old, or up to 35 for veteran, based on Public Land Corps Act of 1993 authorizing this AmeriCorps opportunity.
  • Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award.
  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience serving in a youth serving organization and/or National Park Service
  • Experience with asset management, program management, and financial software.
  • Experience managing projects and following through on assigned tasks
  • Experience in an office setting, particularly one in the federal government
  • Experience in or ability to telework / work virtually and maintain productivity
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but can be substituted for relevant experience
  • Experience with spreadsheets, accounting and managing funding
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)

Time Requirements:

Evaluation and Reporting:
As a Stewards member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has served their total amount of service hours, satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
