The ideal candidate is an adaptable and creative journalist with experience in top-tier media organizations, who will help drive innovative and timely storytelling, set news agenda and manage content production.

TheSeniorEditormusthave several years of experience working for daily commercial news organizations. The experience should include meticulous line-editing often under tight deadlines, factchecking, ensuring accuracy and adherence to ethical standards, and helping reporters to conceptualize and shape high-impact stories.

NGN showcases news about innovation across Northeastern's academic and research enterprise, including but not limited to stories about discoveries, innovations across multiple areas, such as artificial intelligence, health, engineering, computer science, data science, and the humanities, to name a few.

NGN covers newsworthy stories across Northeastern's global system of campuses in the US, UK, and Canada. This role is perfect for a journalist who is well-versed in a plethora of topics from science, technology and AI to health and wellbeing, sports and pop culture. The person in this role thrives in a fast-paced environment, has great news judgment, and understands how to mold copy to reach readers across digital platforms. The SeniorEditorwill be adept at crafting compelling, SEO-friendly headlines and captions.

NGN is part of Northeastern's Communications team in External Affairs. Reporting to the ExecutiveEditorof NGN, the SeniorEditoris part of a team of journalists who work closely with media relations, social media and multimedia teams within Communications.

The position is based on the Boston campus and is fully on site, five days a week. Remote or hybrid work are not an option. As is the case for every member of the Communications team, after-hours work, including weekends and holidays, is routinely required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Edit a variety of stories including global breaking news, features, enterprise pieces, and articles focused on artificial intelligence, innovation, experiential learning programs, research, teaching and campus life, among other areas.
  • Edit stories to ensure they are clear, engaging, and accessible to readers.
  • Craft compelling, SEO-friendly headlines and captions.
  • Work closely with reporters to evaluate and refine story pitches, shape coverage, and maintain high standards of accuracy.
  • Help reporters develop reliable sources and maintain strong relationships across the Northeastern community and relevant stakeholder groups.
  • Collaborate with media relations, social media, and multimedia teams to enhance stories with data, graphics, photos, and video.
  • Monitor analytics and audience metrics to inform reporting and follow-up coverage.
  • Adhere to guidelines and fact-check thoroughly.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 - 7 years editing experience with a commercial daily news organization (digital or print).
  • Demonstrated ability to edit a wide range of stories with speed and accuracy.
