Job description

Position Summary
North Greenville University Assistant Controller will support financial operations by preparing monthly financial statements, managing the general ledger, and assisting with budgeting process while ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. NGU utilizes Jenzabar as their financial system. Key responsibilities include managing daily accounting tasks, oversight of general ledger, account reconciliations, assisting with month-end and year-end closing, providing financial reports to Controller for review, assisting with audits, and other tasks as needed. This role may be remote or on-site.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the general ledger by reviewing journals and reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage the account structure for general ledger accounts which includes setting up of new general ledger accounts, department identification numbers and permissions.
  • Serve as liaison for the accounting area to include collaborating with various campus departments, including Student Services, and staff to assist in optimal reporting across the university.
  • Manage the tracking of restricted, unrestricted, and temporarily restricted funds.
  • Lead the preparation of annual Endowment Status Reports (ESRs) for donors and handle complex gift transactions.
  • Assist Controller with developing and updating written accounting procedures and processes for internal controls, compliance, and process improvement.
  • Assist Controller in drafting preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Coordinate and assemble necessary documentation and support for interim and year-end reports and schedules for various audits including year-end financial audits.
  • Provides assistance with integration projects related to third party vendors (Truist-ESP, Paycom, Amazon Business, etc.)
  • Assist with any other tasks as needed

  • Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization both written and verbal
  • Lifting, pulling, pushing, exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Cognitive/Emotional: ability to think critically and concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in conditions 75 to 100% of the time.

Working Relationships
This position is a full-time exempt position. The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller.
Work Schedule
Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with minimum of five (5) years of full-time professional experience in accounting with demonstrated technical competence in higher education.
  • A working knowledge of non-profit/governmental fund accounting.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with accounting systems. Jenzabar experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and advanced accounting principles.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with report building in Microsoft platforms, with proven strength in Excel.
  • Active in a biblically faithful, evangelical church.
