Come be a part of a forward-thinking and innovative team! Our Business Development Manager will drive revenue growth in the bioinstrumentation and life science segment across North America. Our Business Development Manager will identify new opportunities, build strategic customer relationships, and drive demand for GPD's optoelectronic components and integrated solutions within cutting-edge technologies such as flow cytometers, cell analyzers, fluorescent spectrometers, absorption spectrometers, imaging systems, and automation solutions. This is a full-time, remote-based role will report to the Sr. Vice President of Sales & Marketing and is ideally located in ONE of the following locations: Boston/Cambridge, MA San Francisco Bay Area, CA San Diego, CA Research Triangle Park, NC Washington, DC or Seattle, WA Key Responsibilities New Market & Opportunity Development • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across the bioinstrumentation industry, including OEMs, biotech toolmakers, medical device developers, pharma, CROs, and research institutions. • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities aligned with GPD's capabilities. • Conduct market research to identify trends, unmet needs, competitive positioning, and emerging application areas where GPD can provide differentiation. • Engage early with senior level technologist and executives to help shape instrument designs and technical specifications. Strategic Account Management • Grow and support key OEM accounts by understanding their instrument development cycles, technology roadmaps, and purchasing requirements. • Develop account-specific strategies to expand GPD's footprint within existing customer programs. • Maintain regular communication with technical and commercial contacts, building long-term trusted relationships. Technical Collaboration • Translate customer application needs into detailed technical requirements for GPD engineering and manufacturing teams. • Coordinate feasibility reviews, prototypes, technical evaluations, and design iterations. • Provide technical product knowledge on photodiodes, detectors, assemblies, and other optoelectronic components relevant to bioinstrumentation. • Support development of application notes, white papers, and marketing materials targeted at bioinstrumentation customers. Commercial Execution • Lead quotation, pricing, and proposal efforts, ensuring commercial strategies support GPD's financial objectives. • Negotiate terms with customers, balancing long-term partnership goals with profitability. • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, CRM (Salesforce) updates, territory plans, and market intelligence. • Represent GPD at trade shows, technical conferences, and industry networking events such as Photonics West, Pittcon, SLAS, and related exhibitions. Customer Engagement & Travel • Serve as the primary customer-facing representative, managing communication through all early-phase business development activities. • Work closely with internal teams at headquarters during technical reviews, program transitions, and product planning. Qualifications • 10+ years of experience in business development, OEM sales, or technical sales within Bioinstrumentation, Life Sciences tools, or related biotech markets. Experience in bio-photonic systems preferred • Proven ability to identify and win new business opportunities in complex, technical environments. • Track record of meeting/exceeding multi-million-dollar quotas • Deep understanding of instrumentation markets such as optical imaging systems, spectroscopy tools, flow cytometry instruments, diagnostic platforms, microscopy, analytical instruments, or sensing systems. • Strong technical acumen with the ability to engage scientists, engineers, and product managers effectively. • Willingness to travel 30-50% • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills. • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, Physics, Optics, Bio photonics, Biomedical Engineering, or Life Sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, etc.); PhD is a strong plus • Experience selling optoelectronic components (photodiodes, detectors, sensors) or custom optical assemblies. • Existing network in biotech/pharma/academia (ex. OEM instrument companies, life science technology providers, etc.) highly desirable. MISC: • Able to lift up to 25lbs This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export controlled technology. GPD will require proof of status prior to employment.
