What is a remote contract job?

A remote contract job is a position where an individual is hired to perform specific tasks or projects for a company on a contractual basis, but works from a location outside of the company's physical office—often from home or another remote location. These contracts can range from short-term gigs to long-term agreements, and typically outline the scope of work, payment terms, and duration. Remote contract jobs are popular in fields like IT, writing, design, and consulting, offering flexibility for both employers and workers. Contractors are usually responsible for their own taxes and benefits, as they are not considered full-time employees.

What are the qualifications to get a remote contract job?

The primary qualifications for a remote contract job vary by position, though a college degree and several years of experience are helpful for almost all remote jobs. Employers strongly prefer to hire independent contractors who have demonstrated experience and success within the industry, so the more you've worked in your field of expertise, the easier it is to get a remote contract job doing the same type of work. Employers may also ask you to pass a test of some kind. This is especially common in areas like translation and programming. Fulfilling your responsibilities and duties in a remote contract job requires communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage your time. Many contractors partner with agencies to help find work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote contract professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Contract professional, strong self-management, time management, and expertise in your field—often demonstrated through a relevant degree or portfolio—are essential. Familiarity with collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, project management systems (e.g., Asana, Trello), and electronic contract platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, reliability, and adaptability help you build trust and effectively coordinate with remote teams and clients. These skills ensure productive, high-quality work while maintaining strong client relationships from a distance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote contract roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote contract professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with clients, managing time zones, and staying motivated without direct supervision. To address these issues, it's helpful to establish regular check-ins, utilize project management tools, and set clear expectations at the start of each contract. Additionally, creating a dedicated workspace and a structured daily routine can improve productivity and work-life balance.

In this full-time remote position, you will have the opportunity to provide high-quality telehealth services to adolescent and young adult clients facing a variety of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders. Your expertise will contribute to vital support for individuals in need, addressing the increasing mental health crisis impacting youth across the nation.

About the Organization

Veterans' Med Psychiatric Center is committed to enhancing the lives of our clients through innovative and accessible mental health services. Our organization recognizes the struggles that young people encounter and aims to eliminate geographical and financial barriers that hinder their access to help. Work Environment

This role offers a fully remote work setting, allowing you the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States. Our supportive operations team manages all administrative tasks, ensuring you can focus on delivering exceptional care. You will have the resources and technology needed to perform effectively in a telehealth environment while maintaining a balanced work-life dynamic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality telehealth therapy sessions for individuals and groups, tailored to the specific needs and preferences of adolescent and young adult clients.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify clients' mental health needs, treatment plans, and progress evaluations.
  • Facilitate weekly group sessions with a maximum of eight clients, enhancing individual engagement and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as necessary, ensuring clients receive timely assistance during critical situations.
  • Collaborate with our Admissions and Assessment team to manage client transitions effectively and streamline care delivery.
  • Engage in case discussions with fellow clinicians, sharing insights and strategies to continuously improve treatment methodologies.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the mental health field through ongoing professional development opportunities, including free online Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Patient Population / Client Focus

You will primarily work with adolescents and young adults, addressing a spectrum of mental health challenges. This population often experiences unique pressures related to identity, relationships, and societal expectations, making your role crucial in fostering resilience and recovery. The combination of group and individual therapy provides a rich opportunity for deeper connections and impactful therapeutic relationships.

Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Mental Health Counseling is required.
  • Current licensure as LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT in the state of California is required.
  • Flexibility to work between 12 to 40 hours per week, depending on whether you choose a contract or full-time W2 position.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with clients compassionately and effectively in a telehealth setting.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience providing mental health services to adolescents and young adults.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based therapy modalities and a passion for continuous learning and professional development.
  • Experience working in a remote or telehealth capacity is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this role ranges from USD 115,000 to 130,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to competitive compensation, we offer a range of benefits, including:

  • Access to free online CEUs to assist in fulfilling licensing requirements.
  • A collaborative, supportive work culture that values your contributions and well-being.
  • Flexible scheduling that accommodates your personal and professional life.
Career Growth Opportunities

Working with Veterans' Med Psychiatric Center opens the door to numerous professional growth opportunities. As a clinician, you will have the chance to expand your expertise through case discussions, mentorship from seasoned professionals, and access to ongoing educational resources. High-performing clinicians may also explore leadership roles within the organization.

Why Join Our Team
