Job description

Nuclear Engineering Plant Program Specialist / Nuclear Procedure Writer

Job Type: Contract - Remote Schedule: 40 hours/week

System One is seeking an experienced Nuclear Engineering Plant Program Specialist / Nuclear Procedure Writer to support the development and implementation of engineering programs and administrative procedures for an advanced nuclear power plant. This position will play a critical role in developing engineering program procedures, improving plant processes, and ensuring compliance with NRC regulations, industry standards, and quality requirements.

The ideal candidate has extensive commercial nuclear experience, a strong background in technical procedure writing, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams supporting plant design, construction, and commissioning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and maintain engineering program procedures and administrative processes.
  • Create and execute plans for developing, tracking, and maintaining engineering and plant procedures.
  • Develop and maintain standards for engineering processes, procedure development, and program implementation.
  • Write and revise engineering, administrative, operations, and maintenance procedures to support plant activities.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline engineering programs and improve procedure development processes.
  • Coordinate cross-functional procedure reviews with engineering, operations, maintenance, licensing, and other plant organizations.
  • Support implementation of electronic procedures, workflow tools, and document management systems.
  • Coordinate geographically diverse teams of procedure writers and program owners.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training on procedure development standards and best practices.
  • Ensure procedures comply with NRC regulations, INPO guidance, NEI standards, company procedures, and applicable industry codes.
  • Support regulatory reviews, including 10 CFR 50.59, 10 CFR 72.48, and other licensing requirements.
  • Incorporate operating experience, design changes, regulatory updates, industry operating experience reports, and lessons learned into plant procedures.
  • Maintain auditable records supporting procedure development and revision history.
  • Identify software and workflow improvements that support engineering program implementation.
  • Assist with department planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.
  • Support additional procedure development activities as needed to meet project milestones and plant schedules.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of commercial nuclear power plant experience in engineering, operations, or maintenance.
  • 5+ years of experience writing nuclear power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering procedures.
  • 2+ years of experience writing nuclear administrative program procedures.
  • 2+ years of experience serving as a team lead, supervisor, or manager.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial nuclear plant systems, terminology, and engineering processes.
  • Experience interpreting NRC regulations, nuclear industry standards, and licensing requirements to ensure procedural compliance.
  • Strong technical writing, editing, and document control experience.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using electronic procedure management systems, workflow tools, or document management software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to procedural quality and continuous improvement.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting new nuclear plant design, construction, startup, or commissioning.
