Role Overview

Five9 is seeking an experienced commercial attorney for our in-house Transactions Legal Team within the Legal and Compliance organization. In this role, you will be pivotal in enabling Five9's revenue growth by supporting the company's sales and commercial operations. Your work will focus on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements for our cloud center platform, AI-enabled services, data processing, and security offerings. This position requires close collaboration with Sales and other cross-functional teams to support closure of complex commercial transactions and drive legal department initiatives in alignment with company business processes, policies, and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including master services, data processing, partner and reseller, business associate, vendor, end user license, confidentiality, and service level agreements.
  • Prime complex legal transactions with a variety of customers and partners of different scales and sizes, across verticals such as retail, insurance, finance, and healthcare.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on liability, AI and data use, data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance considerations within commercial agreements.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Operations, Product, Compliance, Procurement, and Finance teams to successfully close customer and partner transactions.
  • Identify legal risks and provide balanced, pragmatic solutions that support business objectives while managing legal risk in a high-pressure, high-growth environment.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of contract templates, negotiation playbooks, frequently asked questions, and scalable legal processes that improve efficiency and accelerate deal velocity.

Qualifications

Required

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Between seven and twelve years of combined of law firm and in-house legal department experience.
  • Four or more years of in-house experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements in a high pressure technology sales environment.
  • Significant experience with negotiating SaaS, cloud, and other technology agreements.
  • Experience addressing issues in telecommunications, data privacy, AI, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and negotiations simultaneously in a fast-paced demanding environment.
  • Strong commercial judgment and ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting product teams with AI-enabled and data-driven technology products, features, and use.
  • Familiarity with data privacy and regulatory frameworks relevant to enterprise SaaS platforms, including HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2, and U.S. privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA).
  • Working knowledge of standard business processes for cloud companies, including go-to-market strategy, customer experience management, and finance processes.
  • Proficiency improving contract lifecycle management and legal operations within high-growth technology companies.
