What does a remote contract recruiter do?

A Remote Contract Recruiter is a hiring professional who works on a contractual basis, typically from a remote location, to help organizations find and hire suitable candidates for job openings. They manage the full recruitment process, including sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, screening resumes, and coordinating with hiring managers. Their contracts may be short-term or project-based, giving companies flexibility in staffing. Remote Contract Recruiters use various online tools and platforms to efficiently connect with potential candidates and streamline the hiring process.

What does a remote contract recruiter do?

Remote contract recruiters are independent contractors hired to find and screen qualified candidates for specific job openings. Recruitment agencies employ remote contract recruiters on a short- or long-term basis, and they may be assigned to one particular employer or to several different companies. In this role, you comb through resume posting sites and other employment sites for job seekers that match the qualifications required for the position. You contact the applicant and conduct a virtual interview to gauge their fit for the job. Those who meet the criteria are then forwarded to the company to go through the interview process. Remote contract recruiters work from home and may be paid hourly or on commission, based on the number of positions you fill.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote contract recruiter?

To thrive as a Remote Contract Recruiter, you need strong talent acquisition skills, knowledge of recruitment best practices, and experience with full-cycle recruiting, often backed by a bachelor's degree in human resources or related fields. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing tools like LinkedIn Recruiter, and digital communication platforms is essential. Exceptional interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to manage time independently set top performers apart. These skills ensure effective candidate sourcing, seamless client communication, and successful placements in a remote work environment.

How do remote contract recruiters effectively build relationships with hiring managers and candidates despite working off-site?

Remote Contract Recruiters often rely on strong communication skills and digital tools to foster relationships with both hiring managers and candidates. Regular video meetings, prompt email responses, and transparent updates help establish trust and keep all parties aligned throughout the recruitment process. Leveraging collaborative platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams can also facilitate real-time interactions and quick decision-making. While remote work can present challenges in building rapport, proactive engagement and consistent follow-ups are key strategies for success in this role.

Job description

Description

Connecting Great People with Great Opportunities.

At Gill's Point S Tire & Auto Service, our people are at the heart of our growth. We're looking for an experienced Senior Recruiter to join our HR team on a contract or contract-to-hire basis and help us continue building strong teams across our organization.

This is a full-cycle recruiting role with a lot of variety. You'll support hiring across the business, from corporate and administrative positions to operations and management, leadership roles, and high-volume frontline hiring for technicians, mechanics, service advisors, and service center teams across our multi-state organization.

The ideal candidate is a self-driven, hands-on recruiter who enjoys owning the recruiting process from beginning to end. You can shift from conducting a targeted leadership search to building a pipeline of technicians in a competitive market-and stay organized, responsive, and focused throughout it all.

We're looking for someone who understands that recruiting is about more than filling open positions. It's about finding the right people to strengthen our teams, support our stores, and help our business continue to grow.

What You'll Do:
  • Own the full-cycle recruiting process across corporate, professional, operations, management, leadership, and frontline positions.
  • Lead high-volume recruiting for technicians, mechanics, service advisors, and other store-level positions across multiple states.
  • Partner with hiring managers and field leadership to understand staffing needs, define successful candidate profiles, and develop effective recruiting strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong candidate pipelines through job boards, sourcing, networking, direct outreach, referrals, and other recruiting channels.
  • Conduct candidate outreach, phone screens, interviews, and assessments while providing a positive and professional candidate experience.
  • Manage candidates throughout the recruiting process and maintain accurate, up-to-date information in the applicant tracking system.
  • Coordinate interviews and keep candidates and hiring teams informed throughout the process.
  • Serve as a recruiting partner and resource to hiring managers, providing guidance on interviewing, candidate selection, and consistent recruiting practices.
  • Develop creative sourcing strategies for hard-to-fill positions, particularly technician and skilled-trade roles.
  • Monitor recruiting activity and metrics, identify challenges or stalled searches, and adjust recruiting strategies as needed.
  • Prepare, extend, and negotiate offers in partnership with hiring managers and HR, guiding candidates through acceptance and transition to onboarding.
  • Represent the Gill's Point S brand throughout the candidate experience and build relationships with candidates at every level of the organization.
  • Support recruiting initiatives, process improvements, and other HR projects as needed.

Requirements

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, with experience recruiting across a variety of positions and levels.
  • Experience managing both high-volume/hourly recruiting and professional or management-level searches
  • Proven ability to recruit in a multi-location, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong sourcing skills and the ability to identify and engage candidates in competitive or hard-to-fill markets.
  • Experience using an applicant tracking system; Paylocity experience is a plus
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with candidates, hiring managers, field leaders, and HR.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and recruiting pipelines at once.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of assignments, and keep recruiting efforts moving with minimal oversight.
  • Strong understanding of compliant and consistent recruiting and interviewing practices.
Nice to Have
  • Automotive, tire, dealership, retail, skilled-trade, or multi-location recruiting experience.
  • Familiarity with automotive technician and mechanic roles, including ASE certifications and flat-rate/flag-hour compensation.
  • Experience recruiting Service Advisors, Service Center Managers, District Managers, or other automotive leadership positions.
  • Experience with contract or contract-to-hire recruiting.
Why This Role Matters

This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the growth of Gill's Point S. Our stores depend on talented technicians, service professionals, and leaders to deliver an exceptional customer experience, while our corporate teams rely on strong talent to support our continued growth.

If you're a recruiter who enjoys variety, takes ownership, builds relationships, and knows how to find great people in challenging markets, we'd love to hear from you.  This role is Hybrid/Remote, based out of Portland, OR.
